I could have gotten a p4100 a month ago at a little over 350. I'm still holding out. I like expandability. It makes me feel good. If I decide to add navi. I can down the road. If I want to try bluetooth and get a hold of the module. I'll be able to do that too. Now mind you. I'll probably get the p4200 discounted too. You're only talking a little over a hundred bucks of a price difference for you. You will not have pioneers new interface, expandability and ipod/iphone functionality. Better graphics and touch response. That's a lot to sacrifice for a bill with franklins face on it. Oh and by the way. It comes out on Monday. Only wait left is this weekend.

I opted for the Pioneer AVH P4100DVD, the Bluetooth module, and the JDM DD kit. I had originally purchased the Pioneer AVH P6000DVD, however, upon receiving it, I realized that it doesn't offer steering wheel controls and if you want to run an iPod, you have to purchase an whole additional module to make it work (there was no USB connector on the back of the P6000DVD). I'm very happy with the sound and the flexibility the 4100 has over the stock Bose system. One thing that I wished it offer was some sort of diagnostic screen to change the font sizing, or have an option to allow songs to scroll across the screen. I think it looks great along with the OEM navigation system just above it.
The one big problem I have with the Bluetooth module is that the iPhone can not transfer your phonebook list over to it. It took me several attempts before I realized that I wasn't doing anything wrong, the phonebook transfer just doesn't work with the iPhone.

I also installed an automatic video bypass module which I purchased for approximately ~$40 off of eBay (also called Pioneer Black Box PR1 sold by SpecialtyElectronics) whichs works like a champ. There are a couple of other vendors selling same/similar video bypass products for less too, but I'm not sure how well they work.

Let me explain how the video bypass works. Threre's a parking brake wire. This wire expects a switched signal from your car when you are in park. You can actually achieve this by installing a switch and flicking it to trick your head unit to think it's in park. The wire cannot remain grounded. You can also use a relay. A relay does this automatically everytime it recieves a signal from your head unit. It acts as an automatic switch. That's what i'm doing. After doing research I actually found a complete video on how to do a video bypass for the p4100 on youtube. It's simple. All you need is some wire connectors, some extra wire and a quality bosch relay or any standard relay. And know how to wire it of course. I bought a quality bosch standard relay for 10 bucks.

I have the same setup as you. I agree with your assessment of the 4100. I've had it for over a month now, and I'm enjoying it a lot! Couldn't have been happier in my selection. However, like you I do have some gripes with the 4100; not being able to change the font/size, no scrolling of songs/song information while listening to the radio (unlike the OEM Bose), and limited selection of backgrounds.

How do I upload a picture onto the head unit? I transferred some pictures (JPEGs) onto my flash drive, plugged it into the USB and can not transfer any photos to the head unit

Radio Replacement

Hello everyone.... looking for some advice/help.

I have a 2003 G35 couple and am looking to put in the Pioneer avh4200. Can anyone help me out with what else i will need to purchase in order to get everything up and running? (part #'s, price, etc.)

Is this something that someone can do on their own or do you need to have it professionally installed.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I'm bring my car to the shop tomorrow to install the avhp4200, I'm excited, and let's hope the installation goes smooth, the guys seem pretty professional in what they do. As for other items, you need a DD kit(JDM DD Kit highly recommended), nissan antenna adapter, nissan wire harness(For a bose system you need the 70-7551 harness, for non bose you need the 70-550) Of course the head unit, if you want no gaps, you can get a trim ring. ( I got the scosche trim ring). Then from there every else is optional, steering wheel control, or DVD bypass.

Searching would be appreciated.

The Metra kit for the 03/04s looks fine, for the 05-07s it looks bad.
Metra DD Kit Metra DD Kit
($160)
Metra 70-7551 (Bose) / Metra 70-7550 (Non-Bose) ($12)
PAC SWI-??? (??? depends on your brand of headunit) ($50)
Metra 40-Ni10 ($12)
Some headunits require a PAC ROEM-NIS2 ($80) if you have the Bose system.

Odd.

I installed an 05 g35coupe (bose) and 06 sedan (base) and both needed the adapter.

best one is PAC-SWI-PS. Make sure you buy new.
