Offering Cash- ER SWI-PS Install Help - FAILING!
Ok so as you can tell I am at my wit's end and getting more and more pissed as time goes by.
System is installed in the coupe. Finishing up and just need to install the pac system. So I find the only connection that came from the head unit corresponding to the PAC instructions. Shows the red, green and yellow wires per the spec instructions.
From here I wire my resistors and soldier. I wire the PAC's white wire. Done. Now for red switched power, ok now the ground. Check PAC unit, no problems. Mode programmed- 3 blinks. Done.
So this is the issue-
I go to program the controls, and I press a button but the light on the pac controller starts flickering like it's getting raped. As soon as I let go of the steering wheel control the unit flashes three times and that's it. No further programming, no nothing with the light staying on. WTF?!
To make matters worse, I start getting pissed off and take a breather. Now wait a minute, why the hell is my head unit off? Long story short, I realize that whenever this PAC unit is grounded, it turns my F@#$@#ing head unit off! (Premier 980bt)
So what the heck am I doing wrong here? I am sitting here pissed trying to figure this out. Seriously, if someone can help me through this tonight (I have work in the morning and dont want to rip dash apart again) I will paypal you CASH. I just want this goddamn POS to function!

Have an amazing volt meter next to me. Still doesn't explain why when i ground the unit the f#@$#@ing head unit turns off :-/
Soooooo frustrating. Tried programming it again and said **** the head unit. Is this thing supposed to light up, set the button on the wheel and it just starts blinking three times? I was under the impression that it blinked off until you released it then lit back up again. Everytime I press a button, it turns the light into a spaz of blinking, then blinks three times and turns off.
The best part?
PAC is closed.... GREAT.

believe it or not bestbuy installed my Pac steering wheel module and pioneer headunit along with my sub.
everything went flawless. but the installer i had owns a G35 so
i was lucky b/c he knows this car well.
but give bestbuy a shot

It may be a faulty unit.
Did you ground the reference wire from the same harness that you pulled the two steering wheel signal wires?
Does the PAC have its own separate grounding location? That helps its responsiveness a lot.

.... I am on call for my company.
I was going to wait to respond until tomorrow morning, but I just got paged at 2:10a EST for a call.
GAH!
So I did all the install myself.
The PAC I did use a new grounding point which is the same ground for the yellow wire in the harness for the steering wheel controls.
IE Red and Green wire have the resisters on them, then they combine onto the white wire.
The red wire on the PAC unit goes to the switched power (Red in head unit harness)
The black is on a new ground I am using that the yellow wire from the harness is grounded to as well.
As soon as the black wire from the PAC unit touches ground, the f@#$#@ing head unit turns off. I mean, litterally... OFF. Refuses to turn back on.
I dont even have the remote wire plugged in yet!
This is boggling me!!!!
Will try PAC tomorrow to mee what they say... This is driving me ape****!

From your description, it sounds like a bad PAC unit, as that's exactly how mine is wired up. If it's shorting inside, then the power for the headunit would go the easier route through the PAC.
If you put the power leads on the PAC directly to the battery, what happens? Does the light still flicker as you said it did in the original post?
Does your aftermarket head unit still work great if the PAC isn't connected?

another reason why it may not work is if you have the wrong resistors. if you don't test for the proper resistances it WILL NOT work. it has to be +/- 10% of whatever the required resistance is.
You know I was thinking the same thing....
I thought what if the resistance is wrong? (I mean the resisters are pretty cheap) That would explain programming issues.
But to cause the head unit to totally turn off?
I was thinking about your posts.... Grounds are fine. The red switched power is what turns the head unit on-on. The yellow constant power keeps the time, settings and the motor to open and close the unit's faceplace.
So wait, when the head unit turns off the beep sounds and the faceplate opens. Hmmm, that does agree with the idea that more voltage is going to the PAC than to the head. This gives me an idea.....
Going to call PAC tonight when I get out of the office but I'm thinking that I should try wiring the red switched line to the cigarette adapter. I already tapped in a line (Tapped as in soldiered in) and run the V1 off of it.
Keep the ideas coming. I am NOT looking forward to tearing everything apart again for this :-/
Thanks again,

Where are you located? I might be able to help.
BTW, I had problems doing mine as well but it was a stupid mistake and accidently have the 1/8 plugged into some other connection on the back of the pioneer head unit.

I am located in Vermont. Yes, the green mountain hell. :-(
No one on these boards is in Vermont. I think I am one of like two people in this state with the coupe.
Didn't even have the jack plugged into the head unit remote connection yet. Tried it in and out thinking maybe it wasn't fully connected and this was causing the issue. Nope, no luck.
I am hoping the PAC tech laughs and tells me exactly what is wrong from experience. Fingers crossed.

Would the lack of a correct resister value cause the entire head unit to turn off however?
I mean, without the remote wire actually being plugged into the head unit it would do this... Tells me voltage issue of some sort.
Gah. Now I just want to get the hell out of the office and get this wrapped up. Have two Type-X 12" 's coming to my door as well. Let's hope the roommate is up to sign for them :-D
