Viper 5901 Alarm

Hey i am thinking about getting this installed. My buddy works at best buy and with his discount i can get it for $189.53 with a basic install. Does anyone here have any experience with this alarm?

yes it works like a beast. I can turn on my car from like half a mile easily. Only thing i dont like is that the battery dies out quickly.

cool what other modules did you get? i was thinking about getting the proximity sensor $39, battery backup $17, voice module $34, and an ex mini piezo siren $14 for inside the car. overkill?

Damn you are going all out lol. I got it as a gift so i didnt get no modules. I plan on getting the tilt motion sensor soon when i put on my rims and im thinking about the window automation system, the price is the only thing stopping me.

I like how you can roll down the window with the stock key fob. Very convenient in the summer, especially when your the owner of a black car.

IMO that's a bit of an overkill, i think it would attract more attention if anything. But hey it's your car so do what you want and the prices are preety good.

yeah you are right... i think i will skip the voice module.. proximity sensor is a must IMO though it cancels out the need for a glass breakage sensor and tilt sensor

yeah i've got the tilt sensor, glass break sensor & backup battery mods on my 5901..all work very strong although i did have a prob with the install (slip light, brake light & vdc were all on for a bit) but this alarm is great like most of their setups...bestswat your battery life drains quickly? i dont have to charge this thing but once a month- if that

Actually, the price you have is for the unit and does not include install, nor the parts or labor for the key intergration. You friend is also risking his job for buying this and having you pay him for it.

Not to threadjack but has anyone installed a 5901 or 5902 with a Ikey equipped car? I know there are modules that you can purchase that will integrate the factory alarm with the remote start but what about additional accessories from Viper?

Is there someway you can add the tilt sensor, glass sensor onto the factory alarm?

If you have to unlock the door with the aftermarket keyfob it defeats the purpose of the Ikey to begin with. Any ideas?

^^completely agreed. I have mutliple friends and installers people who work at bestbuy, $200 for the unit, $100 of parts and $100 on labor. But no one wanted to put up for it, IE risk their jobs. My installer friend would but then it will not be warrantied.

There is a couple on amazon, refurbs, for that price...
HERE HERE
Then you could probably DIY for free... unless you really want to pay yourself $100 an hour, but its just going to the same bank account

If you have metalized window tint, proximity sensors have a tendency to get skittish with that. They also can require some continuous adjustments. I'd skip that and get the glass breakage sensor. They never fail. Also the battery backup/siren is a waste since your battery cables aren't exposed enough for someone to cut them. If your stock battery runs low, the siren automagically goes off until the car battery is dead. The two-way would pick that up and let you know something is wrong. If they offer a tilt sensor, get that. It can help make sure no one lifts the car to take your wheels. Same goes for towing. If they lift the car, the siren goes off. My suggestions.

I bought mine at Best Buy a few months ago. I spent about $650 for everything after taxes.

i think you guys can still get them from a couple of authorized dealers online but you've gotta know a shop thats an authorized dealer to install it to maintain warranty & make sure you know the shop owner or they're cool with this because they normally want you to buy the alarm in house...got mine for 260+ extra mods & install was like 120 + a 60$ module for the auto start.
