hi, i have 2005 g35 coupe 6mt with navi. its 6.X version navigation. the problem is that navigation disc for eastern europe is only avalaible in 7.X version. which doesn't work on 2005, but works on 2006-07. now the question is: is it hard to upgrade 2005 navigation to 2006-07?

what if i just changed dvd-rom to 2006-07? will it work?

 

Almost that easy. You need the wiring harness from the 06's navi unit too. To make reconnecting it as easy as possible, get as much length on those wires as you can. You'll be soldering approximately 25 wires to make the new harness.
EDIT: You may also need the display. I'm looking at the signal comparisons in the service manual between the RGB signals, and they are a little different. It may be just different pictures, or they may actually have different signals. If the colors on the screen aren't right you need the screen off an 06 as well, but the harness is the same, so it's a straight swap.

Sound bad?

Here's the good news, all but four wires are the exact same color. The wires that are different are:

The harness on the 05 has two yellow wires in it, the 06 only one. The 06 gets by with just the one. That's fine. There also may be bare shield/ground wires that get connected too (these are all the same color, so they don't count against the four different ones)

Between the car's main brain and the Navi Unit:
The BUS + is Black w/Red stripe on your 05, and Purple in the 06.
The BUS - is White w/Red stripe on your 05, and Light Green in the 06.

Between the Navi unit and the Display:
The BUS + is Sky Blue on your 05, and White in the 06.

If you need more than that, you can refer to the AV service manuals:

2005 Coupe (relevant portion starts on page 54)

They may look confusing if you're not used to these type of diagrams, but the relevant portions are where wires go into the "NAVI CONTROL UNIT".
There is a wire color:
B = Black
W = White
R = Red
G = Green
L = Blue
Y = Yellow
LG = Light Green
BR = Brown
OR or O = Orange
P = Pink
PU or V (Violet) = Purp
GY or GR = Gray
SB = Sky Blue
CH = Dark Brown
DG = Dark Green

And a terminal number, and inside the box that represents the "NAVI CONTROL UNIT" is the function of that wire (Like +B for + battery power, IGN for ignition, VOICE + & - for voice to the head unit etc...). Basically you're just matching the function from the 2005 to the 2006. Like I said, with the exception of those four wires, they all are function matched to color, and I even told you which functions don't color-for-color, and what color they DO go to - so get soldering!
