So I got this DD just installed in my car and i love how it looks and stuff, but its boot up is super slow. I knew it would be a little slow, people said 30 seconds to 45 seconds but with my ipod hooked up it takes like 3-4 minutes and says Loading VR dictionary please wait. I know this is the voice recognition but can't i make that go faster somehow it's not like i have a huge ipod (only 6 gigs of music) anyway any help would be wonderful
If you're changing the contents of your iPod and want the VR to work, you'll have to live with that. If you are not changing its contents, just go into the audio settings and turn off the VR dictionary option. VR will still work, but if you change the contents, it will not play the right stuff. You'll ask it for Metallica and it'll start playing Beyonce.
If you change it every week or so, you just go into the same audio settings, turn it on, and once it finishes, turn it back off. VR will work properly, but you have to manually do this.
With the VR turned off, you should get audio from your iPod in about 20 sec, but you'll still be unable to input destinations or use bluetooth for almost 2min.

3.0 firmware and remote start ftw. I just start my car as I am walking up to it and by the time I have settled in and belted up, my F90 is up and running.
+1 on vr setting as well.

I use my VR, but since it's a 120gb, I only have to update the VR every couple months or so when I get around to dumping my new music on it.
If you shuffle what's on the player a lot, then you have to choose no VR or VR w/longer boot.

thanks i only add music like every 2 weeks so can just turn the VR on to update and then turn it back off? also i updated the whole system to the 2.0080, the 3.0 just looks like map upgrades and stuff plus its like 100 bucks. Does it actually make a huge difference in everything because the 2.0080 update made it faster

The 3.0 update makes the screen a lot more responsive. Plus there's the updated maps. I bought it during the pre-order sale, so it was only $60. Boot time isn't noticeably faster either.
avic411.com has instructions to update it without the official update, but doing so is at your own risk.
Yes, you can just flip the VR on and flip it back off once it's done every couple weeks and enjoy the VR benefits.

I went on to avic411.com and there is one of the three files for the update I can't download. Any suggestions? Also i think on the iPod interface it's weird I can't search or view by song only artist and album. Is there any way to fix that?
anyone had the problem that the head unit just displays a black screen? You can hear the music playing and everything, I see the splash screen, then the screen goes black.. I have to hold the map button, and then I can see the screen again.. It JUST started doing this like a week or so ago..
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue..
