What is this factory integration thing you speak off?
just get a 160gb ipod classic... you won't regret it. or if even that one has too many features look for a last generation version (you'll save money there too go with an 80gb or something)

no wifi or silly apps... just portable music goodness

there are some head units showing up on the market that have their own DAC (digital audio converter) built into the headunit. so when you plug in an ipod it bypasses the ipods internal dac and uses the higher quality one in the headunit.

that is the best way to go.. \end thread

your list made me LOL several times

^ I could keep going but I really felt the point was driven home.

I think the iPod is ok as a music player, the worst part about it is iTunes. I use MediaMonkey to sync it with my computer, since MediaMonkey will transcode the FLAC on my computer into 320kbps MP3s when syncing with the iPod, without making duplicates on either.

Just think of it this way, you're not buying an iPod, you're just buying the most universally supported CD changer out there.

B)100X more complicated? Really? According to the info I just found on this unit, it has one wire to connect to a plug in the trunk of the car. The iPod connector requires the dash be ripped apart to get to the back of the radio. Am I wrong?
G)Who cares about the size if it's in a corner of the trunk?
I) Refer to ^G)
K)It's being connected to my stock stereo. So the VR should be fine.

Fits the bill for me.

A) More expensive
last i checked ipod interface cable for G was at least $200 + the installation and cost of the ipod....that's not cheaper.

) 100x more complicated to install than "Plug iPod into cable running from back of headunit".
Clearly you don't know how phatbox connects.

J) It's harder to search through than most iPod interfaces in headunits.
Have you used a phatbox? I have never seen ANY ipod interface that is even in the ballpark of the phatbox navigation. Even g37 hookup with the touch screen only has about 15% of the browsing ability. I had to re-tag all my songs with the first letter of the artists name in the composer field as a work-around just so I could get to a song. How is that possibly better?

I am aware of no direct oem headunit ipod hookup for the G that calls out voice announcements to help navigate with.

H) Not easily dockable in the home.
connection from the car to the home pc requires exactly the same effort for phatbox cartridge as ipod. I have use both and they are the same.

F) There's a lot of people that wouldn't understand how to transfer their existing music library to it, since iTunes can't load it. (I don't use iTunes at all wtih my iPod)
Wow, you would have to be a complete idiot to be able to use itunes but not phatbox music manager. It seems much easier in every respect. Have you used it? The itunes software seems way harder with it's constant nag you to buy their itunes store crap.

I) It doesn't fit nicely in the center console or glovebox.
Nicely? are you kidding me? My ipod classic (the only ipod that really works right with the g37 interface becuase of their hit-miss support) takes up pretty much ALL of the console space with the wire attached. It has to be removed to access any of the other connections or the armrest dc power. Basically my armrest storage is now an ipod holder only.

E) A lot of people actually do take their iPod around with them and enjoy the convenience of having their music continue from their headphones to their car by just plugging it in when they get there.
That's really all you get with ipod, but there are alot of people who never do that and want a dedicated system for the car. Not a portable player with car connectivity
