Help me pick a sound setup.
Sound dampening material (miles ahead of Dynamat):

...of course not every sub is IB-capable. The driver will draw more power to reproduce the low lows than what a classic large ported setup would draw. Like I stated earlier, the OP needs to ensure his sub is mounted on an actual baffle, meaning that the rear deck must dampened, yeah, to the extreme for it to sound nice.

I just got done installing a new system in my G, so I will add some input as well. In order to properly give you any audio advice - you need an overall goal. Mine for example, was high quality sound that would be loud and clear while on the highway with my windows down (a lot of highway miles for work). I went with Hybrid Audio Technologies Imagine comps in the front, and a Stereo Integrity BM mkIII - all powered by a JL HD900/5. Not exactly budget friendly, but it is exactly what I wanted and doesn't take up too much space at all. One thing to note is that I kept the factory head unit, which is your goal, so choosing a JL amp was inportant for the differential balanced inputs. My suggestion for a budget friendly install would be, a JL XD400/4, ID CTX65CS, and an ID12D2 v.3 sub. This system however when you include necessary hardware and installation you are looking at around $1,000. But it will be super efficient and clean while integrating with your factory head unit without too much modification. Running the ID 12" sub in a small box off of 200 watts will yield a ton more output than placing an IB sub in the rear deck. This again is all based on my opinion and listening preferences, since everyone has their own set of ears. Let me know what you think and then everyone here can help you out with your decision. Whatever you decide, best of luck and have fun - that's the point of owning a G.

Just ordered 20 sq.ft of sound deadening material, and I have about 8-10sq.ft left over from a previous install, so hopefully its sufficient. Anyway, I know I'll be disabling my rear passenger speakers.... am I also going to disable my rear deck speakers for the new sub? I haven't really taken a close look at the rear deck to see how its all set up, but I'm assuming that I will be disabling those too, correct?
Been trying to read up on IB all day. Looked through the site posted above, and also http://www.audiogearreviews.com/tech...ite_baffle.asp seems to have a good amount of info. Can't wait to get started on this project.

Why did you decide on a IB sub in the rear deck? Space in the trunk? Cost savings for sub/box combo? Limited power supply? If going IB is something you want to try, by all means - give it a go. But based on opinion and experience with car audio I don't think you would be AS happy as having a small sub box in the trunk.
Don't go IB in the rear deck. IB does work very well, but not through an 8" sub on the rear deck. Personally I would disable the speakers in the rear deck. I also opted for a small custom box in the corner of my trunk.

Just got all the stuff today. Still not positive if I wanna do the install myself, or just take it to a shop to get it done. Looking at the sub & the rear deck, I'm a bit confused as to where it's actually supposed to go... am I trying to fit it where one of the rear deck speakers are? Or am I trying to place it in the middle of the speakers, and cutting a hole to make the space. The speakers will be no problem for me. The amp shouldn't be tough, just want to get a clearer picture about the sub. Is there anyone here who did an 8" sub in the rear deck? Another option that I saw on Car Domain, would be to place my sub in this plastic piece that's in the trunk. It doesn't take up trunk room, and seems like it would be less work to just make it fit in there.

I called a shop about making me an 8" 4080 box... they said that it would cost about $300-$350 to make... pretty ridiculous if you ask me. So I don't have to deal with too much work & trouble... I might just buy an 8" single sub box ... cut a square from that black trim piece in the trunk, and have the sub box at an angle pointing a bit upwards & towards the passenger side. The sub box has a depth of about 12 inches, the depth of the trunk under the mat is about 7 inches. So it wouldn't be the worst thing if i have to give up 7 inches.
One more thing, where would be the best place to put my amp? Behind one of the seats, screwed on the back of the rear seats, or placed somewhere else in the trunk?

The sub doesn't need to be aimed in any direction. The frequencies it works in are omni-directional, so you'll hear it no matter where it's facing.
What are the outside dimensions of that sub box? There is such a thing as too big. You only need a box with about .30 cf of air space for an 8" sub. The reason to get an 8" is so you can mount it under the rear deck in an IB setup. If you're going to put it in a box, then you should get a 10" or 12" sub instead. You'll get much better bass out of either of them compared to an 8". If you are going to box up your 8", then look for a correctly sized box.
