Bass on a Budget

Basically, the thread title explains it all. I'm looking for a little more bass than what the bose unit puts out. The system really is lacking, and i wouldn't call myself the biggest of audiophiles either i think first off, i will probably insulate the doors, and try to find some of the rattles i hear from time to time (seems like its around the window area)

Just some specs the guys over in the DIY thread told me to include:
Model:2006 Coupe
Unit:BOSE Headunit
Goal: i really don't much about audio, but I would say the bose sound quality suffices for now, as my mp3's are probably not very high quality themselves. Basically, I'm looking for more bump, but not that annoying high rattling bass, if you guys know what i mean.
Type of music you want to enjoy: I listen to hip hop most of the time, but i do listen to songs that play on the hit radio stations, and some techno from time to time.
and most importantly - Budget: i really don't know price ranges and such, and i know you get what you paid for, so i don't know what to say. i guess i want to see my options first. Honestly, I want to pay as little as possible, but of course i don't want to end up with a piece of crap haha. Is a $200 ridiculous if i'm looking for decent quality?

Thanks for helping a newb out !

the only area you could go cheap on is the box... get a whatever box for $25-30 at a flea market. make sure they're not paper thin. And are to spec to the driver.

You could find a older model JL W3v2 for a good price. If not JL, Alpine Type R... they're nice all around subs. You're probably looking at around $100 maybe less if you search.

Amp is what's gonna set you back. I dont know where you can get a good priced amp... someone else wanna chime in?

in a sub install the box is where you dont wanna cheap out

Yes it will sound good but not as good as a box that is made for the sub you have.

Audio is almost all installer skills as to how good it sounds.

Fancy speakers and wires dont help when they are not properly installed

The pricing is up to you.

Get an over all budget and if you are not sure on how to do it yourself, remember to include installers cost for labor.

Dont forget to include wires and little accessories in our budget.

Id say a decent budget for just a sub stage is roughly $500-$600 with about $150 going to installer fees and wires.

you can stick to your $200 budget if you buy a used sub and have a friend help you build a box and install it, but even then that would be tight because of the cost of the wires.

For $200 you might be able to find somebody who can "acquire" an amp and sub that're wired together. Just pay no attention to the bits of broken glass in the cone.

But for hip hop and "hit radio"? SQ doesn't matter with that, so you at least have that going for you.

Get a used class D amp with speaker level inputs and a used sub + box combo. Purchase about 18 feet of 4-gauge wire from an audio shop to use for power and ground wires and some short lengths of wire to tap into the Bose amp for remote power on and speaker-level inputs.

Still going to be pushing that $200 budget though. Maybe wait a few weeks and donate some blood to get something better?

If you really wanna get out cheap just use google and... learn.... learn as much as you can about subs, wiring, and audio in a whole. I learned how to wire and setup my headunit and subs with no prior knowledge in audio in like 2 days. This way if you acquire the assorted parts you will save a good amount on installation thus allowing you more money for a decent setup. search search search
