Some basic questions from a new member...
Hello all,
I have been reading a lot on this forum for a couple of months now and as of 2 weeks ago am a 2006 G35 owner. This is my first post.
I managed to get some decent deals and now have the somewhat typical 4080 enclosure with 10w6v2 and a JL 500/1 amp. Future plans include a double din, a 5ch amp new components.
All is installed now (pic was pre-install) and here are my questions.
1. Can somebody please post what there settings are, both on amp and on head-unit (Bose factory radio)? I think I have mine sounding ok, but I'd like to see if I am missing something.
2. The grill on the 4080 box pops off due to the excursion of the 10w6, is that a common issue? is there a fix?
3. Thinking about going with infinity kappa perfects for the fronts (I can get em for under $150 a pair directly from infinity) any reasons why I shouldn't go with those? issues with them fitting? issues with their quality?
4. Which size Optima Yellow top battery should I purchase to replace stock one?
I have tried searching for the above questions and either couldn't find and answer or found conflicting answers. Thanks in advance for your responses guys/ladies and I look forward to conversing with all of you...

That's the 4080 enclosure.
1. What settings are you referring to?
2. I can't answer that one.
3. If you're looking to improve sound quality, I'd start with the factory amp, not the speakers. Speakers after the amp.
4. Size 35. - https://g35driver.com/forums/faq-diy...ce-optima.html

Yes, it is the 4080 enclosure, I purchased it second-hand but I must say I am impressed with the craftsmanship. Google it you'll find it easily.
Thank you for your help
That's the 4080 enclosure.
1. What settings are you referring to?
All of them, all the ***** and switches on the back of the amp, a photo or two would be ideal. I want see how far my tuning is off from others

Amp would come with or before I purchased speakers, head unit would be in first as well. I am interested in anyones experience/knowledge in regards to the quality of this speaker and of any know issues with install

Not much in the way of Bose Head Unit settings to be had. Bass, Treble, SSV (I would set this to off, it increases volume of the stereo the faster you drive, but if you like it it would be OK). Other than that...
As far as settings on the amp, JL audio has a how to, in the manual for setting the gains correctly. Basically find the impedance of the load (ie... ohms) and set the appropriate voltage with an AC volt meter, while playing a 60hz tone (I can email you one if you like, then just burn it to a CD and set it to repeat).
You take the sub off the amp, and play the 60hz tone on the cd player, put an AC Volt meter on the speaker outputs and set the gain to the appropriate voltage.
On my JL Audio amp it is like this.
4Ω - 31.0 V
3Ω - 29.7 V
2Ω - 28.3 V
I am running a 12w6v2 so mine is set to 28.3 V.
This whole process is only to find the max output the gain can be set to.
As far as other settings, you would have to play with the 12db or 24db crossover slope. Usually with a woofer in the trunk the 12db is what you want (tip from JL Audio), the 24db is a bit to steep of a slope.
I usually set my JL amps at low level input (there is a low/high input level switch), this will produce more power, make sure your woofer can handle it. This will also change the voltage (what I was rambling on about in the above paragraph).
As far as crossover frequency I would start at 90hz, you can go up to maybe 120hz, but the higher you cross it over the more the bass will become directional, meaning your music will start to sound like it is coming from the rear of the vehicle. This can ruin your 'front stage'.
Bass boost option will usually just boost a particular frequency, on my JL amp it boosts like at 48hz I think. So music at that frequncy will be boosted (amplified) depending on what DB bass boost level you set. I usually don't go to big on it, somewhere in the middle is just great.
Sub sonic filter, this cuts out frequencies below the level you set it at. Most frequencies below about 30hz are inaudible to the human ear, but CAN be felt, they are also harder on the Subwoofer to reproduce.
None of these recommendations are set in stone, trust your own ears. Set a setting and drive around with it for a few days, if you like it keep it, if not put it back, or move on to the next setting to mess with.
Just my thoughts.
Good luck.
ps. I think you can find a 60hz test tone by just doing a google search, and download it, then burn it to cd. Or just set your gains in the middle somewhere! OK, maybe a little on the higher side.

gl35 thank you for your response...
djfarhan I am glad someone got it.
No one with the same setup as me wants to chime in? I know there are a bunch of you out there.

If you are getting new speakers make sure you get a separate amp for them, don't try to run them off the bose HU. Whether you wanna do speakers+amp first or HU is really up to you and your budget and such.
Go to the JL site and download the owner's manual for the 500/1. It will tell you how to set your amp.
Neither grill on my 4080 (driver & passenger side) pops off. 10w6 in both.
