12W7 and JL 1000/1

alright im about to get this setup 2maorw, along with a custom box buiilt in my coupe. i hear nothing bad about this setup, if anyone has something bad, please share..

only question is....will it kill my battery/alternator? i know this is alot of power, should i get a capaciter? also if anyone has this setup, would a line driver be useful or should i not bother?

All i gotta say is this setup def falls under BALLA $$$$ if you ask me, its gunna pound. The cap would def be a nice addition to the system. But its hard to say if its really needed. Since the JL Regulated Power puts out the same output even when the voltage varies slightly

What you need to do is get a LOC and tap it into the Rear Speaker wire's coming from the Headunit to the Bose Amp. You do not need a remote lead since the the JL 1000.1 has a signal sensing feature which will bassicly save you some time. After the LOC is hooked up to the amp, your going to want to get a Volt Meter and property tune the Voltage setting on the amp. There is a detailed set of instructions on JL site.

If you're about to drop down some serious cash, I wouldn't skimp out on a cap. From what I remember, it should be 1 farad for every 500 watts.. so therefore 2 farads for you. An amp/sub of that magnitude will definitely work your alternator pretty good. A little safety for your car now goes a long way later down the line.

Damn man, thats a lot to throw down on a sub and amp. Hope you're going to upgrade your speakers as well or else you'll have great bass and thats about it.
Definitely get a cap. There's no reason not to if you'll spend that much. The last thing you want is your headlights to go dim everytime your sub hits.

Re: 12W7 and JL 1000/1

my_Gthang .... 2 10" w7's will hit harder than a 12" w7 ...

I really perfer 10" subs over 12" since they respond fasters and tend to be more tight. But if your looking for biggest base then the 12"'s will prob suit your needs better.

Re: 12W7 and JL 1000/1

If you do have charging issues you really need to upgrade your alternator. Putting a cap only helps for short bursts of energy to your amp. Caps do nothing for your overall amp draw, they actually hurt. Your alternator sees the cap as another load, just like your battery. If you add more caps and batteries you will just cause more strain to your source of power, your alternator. I would much rather have a small battery, zero caps, and a high output alternator. Most alternator shops can upgrade your alternator for less than $100. I installed two jl1001 on a ball players Escalade and it had major charging issues and that truck has a large alternator. He wanted to add 8 caps because his buddy said it would help. After I did what he wanted the car would hardly idle at high volumes. I pulled all the caps out and had a custom alternator built for his truck and we have not seen him since.

thanks for the imput, now i dont know what to do, the cars brand new and i dont want to start changing the alternator and such. i already have the 1000/1. what if i put my gain down, would that make a difference? or would i be better off downgrading my amp?

You do not want to spend $100 for a alternator upgrade but you do want to spend money on a cap, connectors ( for the cap), and installation? Are you concerned about keeping it stock? You are about to install a 2 serious rattling and vibrating pistons in your car. Good luck keeping your car stock...
