Re: 12W7 and JL 1000/1
good advice from 4080 about the cap. Skip it.

In terms of the electrical system, it won't handle a 1000/1 without mods. The 1000/1 has a 120 amp fuse IIRC. Your stock alternator is rated at 110 amps. I had my alt tested and it put out around 126 amps. Your's may be stronger or weaker but it'll be a minimum of 110 amps. Therefore, if the alt was just powering the amp, it will probably fall short. To compound the problem, your alt has to power the rest of your car.

The last time I looked into an upgraded alt, no one made one for the G. You may be able to have your's rewound but it only gives you more power up in the rev range and it'll suffer at lower rpms in most cases.

Have you thought of a 500/1 to power it instead? With 500 watts, you'll get around ~92% of a 12w7's potential. With a 1000/1, you'll only get around 95-96%. The extra drain is not worth it IMO.

Dude the 1000.1 is a Excellent amp, and I would run it if using 2 w7's but otherwise the 500.1 would be perfect.

I think he is running only 1 w7. The 500/1 will be plenty. Your problem with that setup won't be the sub or amp, but the rattles you are going to get when you crank it. It'll be time to invest in some dynamat and a bunch of foam for the interior.

Re: 12W7 and JL 1000/1
yea rattles will probably be my next project, although i had 1 12" Kicker L7 in there before, and 2 HE2's before that and the rattling wasnt all that bad. but then again im gettin a W7

is there a how to for the dynamat for the trunk area? or should i just have an installer do it.

Re: 12W7 and JL 1000/1
applying dynamat isn't rocket science but it does take a lot of elbow grease. The coupe is pretty decent compared to the sedan in terms of rattles. I'd go on ebay, get a 36 square foot bulk pack for ~$130. Install your sub, crank it up (after a little break-in of course) and listen for where the trouble spots are. Installers charge $40-50 per hour and it can take a few hours to do the trunk only.
