If you had $300 to spend on audio, what would you get??

I'm just interested to see what some of you guys prefer.... I listen to mostly hip hop, so I would be looking to get more bass. Any suggestions?

Only $300 for like ever, or beginning? Either way I would say sound deadening materials all the way. You would get the most out of what the stock/Bose has to offer (not much I know) and a headstart on sound quality if ever you can budget to go aftermarket. Sound deadening is so worth it no matter which way you go. I know you were probably looking for a sub/amp combo, but now that I know what deadening is capable of, for my $300, thats what I'd do.

hmm.. i can't believe that totally slipped my mind, since i have read about it in my research haha. which brand and types do you recommend? i know some control vibrations, while others keep sound out...

also, i think deadening the wholee car will be a little overkill. which panels do you feel are the most significant? (besides door, i know that one is important) wheel wells? trunk? under the trunk mat? under the rear seats?

thanks for the help

If you have an 03-04, then you can do a $250 headunit and metra conversion.

$300 will barely buy the JDM kit at a good price, so in an 06, the only thing I can think I'd do with $300 is keep saving.

how about those stock replacement subs you linked to the other guy?

Would one of those budget subs and sound insulator make a decent difference?

All I can safely recommend is what I have, and that is Dynamat. I know there are others that cost far less and are probably even better. I got the Dynamat on the cheap and it was more than I needed, I will let others recommend their brands in that regard. But yes obviously the door, and a little hint when you do them, kinda go around the access panel for later access if your window or key motor dies, I paneled the whole thing so when either of those go out it wont be a fun ordeal. And yes, the rear wheel has a huge reverberating cavity by the passengers, remove the access panel and stuff some foam or insulation in there and deaden the panel itself. After that get as crazy/thorough as you want. If you plan on subs possibly later then do the trunk area and rear deck too. You will be amazed at how much better even the Bose system sounds with deadening, in my car at 75 all you can hear is the wind over the car, don't need the speed sensing volume control on at all.

$300.00 hmmmmm

0. Single Din Headunit ($150-300)
1. Headunit non navi ($400-800)
2. Headunit w/ navi ($800- and up)
3. Sub(s) , amp(s)
4. Box
5. Dd kit (look around on the fs threads)
6. Install & material charge.

The only way i can see you getting something for $300.00 if someone selling their used amp , sub & box combo.

Start by upgrading your existing speakers.

Sound deadening is a viable option, yes.

A $100 8" sub and a $200 amp is an ok option too, but is a poor substitute for a properly ported or sealed enclosure.

At how bad the Bose sounds, even when stopped, it almost seems a waste to deaden it. Good deadening will last long enough that it's an investment towards your next upgrade though. So, a good way to get familiar with disassembling your interior for when you do the rest of the install as well.

I forgot to mention the G is my DD, so I don't see myself putting any audio equipment in the trunk, as it already doesn't have enough space. I'm not looking to do toooo much with the audio. If anything, I'd put my money into some cosmetics like lip, wheels, suspension (can't do much with performance while N/A anyways).

I guess what I'm looking for is just a cheap upgrade from stock

P.S. Deadening is important, but I don't like to drive with my windows up anyways, so I guess unless I am on the highway, it isn't very effective.

Also, does anyone have a link to a forum or website where I can learn more about audio equipment?

You can learn some from the "LEARN" portion of crutchfield.com's website, or www.the12volt.com is also a great resource.
