Fitting problems with JL Audio in front doors

I have JL Audio XR650 csi speakers for the front doors of my coupe. Today I was checking to see if they would fit perfectly, but the factory speaker hole is oval, preventing the JL speaker from fitting flush with the door, also there would be a gap between the door panel and the speaker when installed this way. Does anyone else have this problem, and is the any kind of bracket made to allow this speaker to fit? I was also looking and could not decide if I wanted leave the factory speaker covers, or cut them out and use the JL Audio speaker covers. Any coments or suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks----

Re: Fitting problems with JL Audio in front doors

I have the sedan, but it is the same issue. For the fronts, I used a 1/2" spacer made from MDF. I used the stock spacer and traced it out on a piece of cardboard, then traced the inner circle of the JL speaker onto the MDF. I cut out the speaker hole in the MDF, then used the cardboard cutout and traced the pattern around the cutout in the MDF. I proceeded to cut that out with a jigsaw. It fit perfectly afterward, with new longer screws from home depot, and even added a little silicone for a better seal.

Re: Fitting problems with JL Audio in front doors

I needed to deform these openings (very) slightly with a body hammer to get my MB quarts to fit. The MB Quarts came with a mounting ring, which probably served the same purpose for me as the MDF ring that khsonic03 made. BTW, if you look around, I'd bet you can buy MDF rings already cut for you in the right size.
