Motorola Droid phone mount in non-nav cubby

Thought I'd share my method of mounting my Droid in my non-nav 06 sedan.

I decided to mount my phone in the cubby hole above the radio/hvac controls. I already had the auxiliary input (PAC aPAC-NIS1) but the cord from it was just hanging out from the center console, so this would be a good opportunity to clean that up. I tapped into the cigarette lighter and added an additional cigarette lighter behind the radio. I plugged my phone charger into that and ran it and the aux input through a 1/2" hole I drilled in the back/bottom of the cubby. I attached only the phone holder section of the Motorola window mount to the lid of the cubby using some self-tapping screws with a steel backing plate to make sure it was solid.

I couldn't be happier with the way this turned out. The lid stays up by itself and it can be closed with the phone docked. It looks 100% stock when the lid is closed. The phone also goes into car mode when it's docked due to a strategically-placed magnet in the Motorola mount.

Attached are some pics of the install.

Not bad at all. Do you have it connected to an AUX in? Not familiar with the droid, so I'm not sure what wires beyond the power are connected there.

Yeah, two wires -- micro usb for power and 1/8" stereo in the headphone jack connected to the PAC aux in adapter for the stock Bose system.

Very nice! how did you actually mount it to the cubby hole? I have that car mount which originally comes with the suction cup option and I have the Droid 2. This is very cool im gonna have to do this.

It's mounted with two screws through the cubby lid.

For some reason I'm not able to upload pics to the forum right now, but here's a link to the back side of the lid. You have to take off the lid cover trim piece (4 TINY screws) to access the back.

Sweet! I need to do this...I was trying to think of a way I could secure my droid in there but this seems to be the best way. Did you take apart the dast to do this?

You just get to the wires behind it by pulling that section of the console (see double din install instructions for details) and connect to the wires on the back. Center = +12v, outside = Ground.

I mounted my Droid the same way. Appreciate the photos you posted, made me a lot less nervous about doing it myself.

Timshady - thank you thank you for posting the link to this. Your post was good, but I think I understand this one better.
