Droid X smartphone mounted in non-nav cubby.
I had installed a PAC aPAC-NIS1 a few weeks ago in my 06 sedan so I can listen to internet radio (Pandora+1!). I was hoping to get a mount to fit in the non-nav cubby so I wouldn't have to clutter up my space with any window/dash/vent/etc mount. Searched and found that it had been done previously by madslackin. My phone is a little larger (4.3" screen) and the Motorola DroidX OEM car-mount I used has a large footprint so I did some pre-fitting before I drilled into anything. Found out that I had to completely remove the arm that holds the top in, but it works just as well without it since the phone fits so snug in the mount. Also had to mount it exactly where I did because if it was any lower or higher the charger cord that plugs into the back of the mount would bang out on the back of the cubby hole. I drilled a hole in the armrest storage compartment and just plugged my charger in there (wired under the center console plastics) instead of hardwiring into the lighter/etc.
Install was straightforward. The mount has a sleeve that pops out so I just drilled some holes through the front of the mount that the screw head would fit through, screwed through the back of the mount (using screws short enough to not come all the way through the cubby door). The sleeve covers the holes so no attachments are visible. The mount is sturdy and when I put my phone in it Bluetooth and GPS automatically come on and Pandora rocks through my Bose
I can use it for navigation, making calls, internet (including radio/tv), MP3 player, etc.. And the door closes, even with the phone in
Next: springs or coilovers and exhaust
