Haha that and a better matching carpet! But ya I think you're right, I don't think there is a reason to upgrade the box, I will order the terminals and probably put the money towards a better subwoofer and see how it goes. Any recommendations for a good sql sub in the $150-200 range, what sub are you running in your box?

Mine's a JL 10w6v2, I like it a lot, and they can go about $260 - 350 depending on the site
IDQ10v3d4 are about $230 and are also very well respected for SQ
IDQ10v2d4 are the older model and if you can find one, are about $150 still good SQ
Alpine Type-R are also very good bang-for-buck subs and they just updated the model $140, or $120 for last generation.
www.woofersetc.com to look them up (sorry had a longer post with links, but it failed to post)

Cool, thanks a lot for the input! I woulda really liked the 10w6v2 but don't think my amp is powerful enough for it and also didn't know it could be had for that much, crutchfield has it for a bit over 400 I believe. Also being in Canada, selection is more limited and prices are more expensive. With that being said I was considering either the Type Rs (newer model) or the JL 10w3v3 because they are easily available in stores here and I wouldn't have to wait for product to be shipped.

I still have to do some research on both but wondering if you had any thoughts on the JL. I listen to a bit of everything but a greater percentage of that would be trance and different types of rock, metal, alternative.

W7 = fail all around

cant buy parts if it messes up, kinda low power handling for the price, the price it self

for $600-$1000 you can buy a much better sub than a W7 or W6

Tc sounds from partsexpress have come down in price. I paid $270 shipped for my LMS-R and it sounds much better than the 12" W7 I used

Over all budget sub has to be the Alpine type R. Usually about $160 shipped online for a 12" 600rms and only requires a decent box.

Sounds to me like you want alot of output.

I would do a Type R in 1.5 cubes ported to 33-35hz for a 12"
or roughly 1-1.25 cubes ported for a 10"

If you wanna spend more try the TC sounds from partsexpress. Or maybe go to ficaraudio.com or DDaudio.com. A Fi SSD is just under $200 shipped and will take 800-1000rms daily

Budget and install skills are the key to any install.

even for the price of a w3...$250, you can get much much better for less

JL is the apple of audio, tons of marketing with a so-so product that is greatly overpriced

Hey tried responding earlier but apparently didn't post. Here's basically what I wrote:

I'm not looking to go too crazy with the sub as the rest of my system is not at that level right now.

Currently I'm running 6.5 polk momo components up front and 5.25 polk momo coaxials in the rear. I had them hooked up to a 4 ch Hifonics amp but am replacing it with a Polk 500.4 amp I should hopefully be receiving soon that I ordered from a member on here. I'm happy with the sound of the speakers, but I am by no means an audiophile and have not really even heard how good components by the often better but non mainstream companies sound so I don't have a lot to compare to.

So as for the sub, I am just looking for something to complement my current setup. At the moment I find the RF P2 sub I currently have to be lacking in all departments, sound quality and loudness.

I am limited to the Alpine MRP-M500 amp I bought..I went with it because I got it at cost from a friend that works at Best Buy. I am also planning to stick with the 4080 Sedan box as I like that it uses very little trunk space, something which I need fairly often. I think that even with those constraints I can still get something fairly decent that would be an improvement over the current sub.

I get what you're saying with regards to the JL, I guess pretty much all the mainstream car audio companies are like that...I wanted to get something locally but I may just have to look in to ordering online from the states. I will def check out the links you provided, thanks!

I'll condede that JL's pricey, but they're consistent and if you're not in a position to be able to listen to and compare several other options, they're a good choice. If I could have listened to an IDQ10v3 alongside my JL I might have purchased different. I couldn't, so I went with the one that everybody tries to compare whatever they bought against.

Essentially all the comparisons I was reading amounted to:

"I bought JL and it's awesome"
"I bought Brand A and it's just as good as JL"
"I bought Brand B, it's better than Brand A and just as good as JL"
"I bought Brand C, it's better than Brand B and just as good as JL"
"I bought Brand A, it's better than Brand B and Brand C"
"I bought Brand D, it's better than Brand A, B and just as good as JL"
"I bought Brand E, it's better than JL, Brand A, and Brand B"

So I just figured if everybody's trying to measure against the JL in some way, it was a pretty good bet it would be good choice without having the ability to test my music, in my car.

Just to give an update, I bought a brand new IDQ 10v3 d4 someone was selling locally ...it wasn't a straight fit in the 4080 box, not sure how to describe it exactly but there is sort of a plastic grill all around the back of the woofer that doesn't fit through the mounting ring of the 4080 box. I had to make some indentations in the mounting ring of the 4080 box for this and the terminals to slide through.

Other than that, it sounds amazing now compared to the pos Rockford Fosgate P2 I had in there before. Still breaking it in but hits hard and tight without distorting and responds nicely for quick series of bass notes.

Now just have to put some felt or foam to quiet the rear deck area and my rear view mirror. Will try to get a few pics up soon.
