Which sub and which amp ??
Which sub and which amp ??
I'm looking to buy a 10" sub and amp for my car .. I'm picking up one of those ZEnclosure boxes and going that route .. I'm not too great on matching sub specifics with the correct amp so I'm going to post here with info on the type subs I've found
1. Alpine Type E 10" Single Coil 4-Ohm, 750W peak power (250W RMS)
2. Alpine Type R 10" Dual Coil 8-Ohm, 1800W peak power (600W RMS)
obviously I'm leaning towards the Type R but I want to make sure it will thump for all kinds of music as I've heard it's better for rock only (is that true)
basically, I want to have a little "thumb" with my songs but I don't need anything TOO crazy .. also, depending on which sub I get, I have no idea what type of amp .. so if anyone has knowledge of what size amp I need I'd appreciate it a LOT .. someone told me I would need an 800-1000W one channel amp if I went with choice 2 .. I just want a small little system that would make it obvious that I have a sub but not sound like an obnoxious earthquark is driving down the street
.. thanks

Well 80% would probably be r&b type music with pretty decent bass but some rap type would be good just to make it thump and make it obvious that I DO have the sub .. I don't want anything "crazy" so I'd like to keep the budget between 600-700 total for box, sub, amp and install .. Like I said, nothing "pro" but enough to look decent and sound pretty bassy .. Thanks
Well, R&B and rap tend to be more droning bass that's not worth paying for a SQ sub for.
You should probably lean more towards a cheaper, higher RMS sub and amp combination if you're not listening to rock, classical, heavy metal or punk.

So if I went that route would I still be able to clearly play the rock and alt songs ? I was thinking of having one of those dials that would let me not use the sub at all if I didn't want .. The stock Bose doesn't really do it for me in terms of bass and loudness so eventually I'd upgrade the Bose amp and all of the speakers I'm just looking to enhance all of the songs really but mostly the rap type songs lol thanks for the reply and sorry for the questions I'm really only good with engine work lol
It'll sound better than stock, but going quantity (rap) is pretty cheap, quality (rock) is kinda expensive, and doing both is quite expensive.
If rock makes up a fairly small portion of your listening experience, you will probably still enjoy it just fine with a quantity setup, so long as you turn down the volume of the sub so it doesn't overpower the rest of your system.

if this were the case, do you have any specific products you would recommend that fits or is less than his budget?

awesome awesome .. thanks for the replies .. so, if my focus is more towards the rap and thump .. which of the 10" subs should I get out of the two I listed and how many watt amp would benefit me more without messing things up?
If you're looking for rap and thump, first thing you should look into a ported box instead of a sealed one, you'll get more out of it. I can't recall off-hand if Zenclosures can build a port to your specifications on the box, but a competent audio shop should be able to modify or build a box for you.
I'm probably not best to recommend particular subs for a quantity situation, as most of the research I did towards my setup was very quality-oriented.
You may even want to consider bumping it up to a 12" woofer as well.
