I saw many articles online saying how to recharge your car battery. My family has 4 cars, and we never recharge our batteries. We only replace the battery when it's dead. What is that recharge step for? Or for older generation cars?

Your alternator charges the car whenever it's driven.

So long as your car doesn't sit undriven for weeks and your alternator's working properly, it's unnecessary to charge the battery, only replace it when it dies.
