Kick Panel or Dash Install??
Kick Panel or Dash Install??
I am recently a proud new owner of a 2004 G35 Coupe. Black on black 5 Speed Automatic with 20 inch rims.
I am putting in a new stereo. My goals for the stereo are:
1)Clean Install
2)All the tech. add-ons i need
3)Loud stereo while still maintaining SQL
So Far for the stereo I have bought: Pioneer avic-z120 (Steerig wheel and ipod control add-ons), JDM 2-din install kit, Alpine F4 Amp, and Dls Gothia 6.3 Componenets
-I will also be adding my old 2 Type-R 10" woofers, and Kenwood 9104D Amp
---My question is that I am going for the best possible SQL I can achieve in my car will still remaining pratical. Many car audio forums talk about sound-staging and how putting your components in your kick panels of the car will achieve this concept best. Does it really affect your overall sound quality that much and is it practical for me to put something like this in my car (For Mids and tweets only)? Or should I just mount them with fiberglass in the pillars and side door (Mid & Tweets in Pillar).
--Also what is the best enclosure for my subs and location? Side mount, Trunk Pass Through, Fiberglass, Ported?

I'm no audio expert but it seems like people really running from SQ have gone for having the mids mounted in the kick panels. SQ is very subjective so it's difficult to say if you'll be able to discern the difference. Some people are perfectly content with the speakers installed in their stock locations.
I am curious to see what you will think of those DLSs. I've been thinking about Focal but people say they sound too bright and that DLS and CDT sound warmer/better.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the general consensus of the best box is the 4080box. It's pricey but allows you to have trunk space. It really depends if you're planning on doing the install yourself. The 4080 simplifies it but if you have fabricating skills then anything is possible.

Depends what kind of music you listen to as to best sub design. A good one ported to match your sub can sound better and louder than the 4080, but a 4080 makes for an easy, clean, removable piece that doesn't take up much room at all. It's a very good sealed enclosure, but again, a very good ported enclosure can be better for other applications, if it's done right.
If you're not going to be competing professionally with your audio system, and with "remaining practical" is on your list, I'd use the stock speaker locations. You can hide quite a lot of speaker and tweeter in those locations and not have a giant sign for nefarious individuals that your car will feed their crack habit for a week.

Ya I live in Canada so in the winter seasons for the kick panels will cause a problem with snow and mud getting the speakers wet. From what i have read up on the stock tweet location seems like a good place to put them. Im not too picky with the absolute best sound. Just trying to see if the kick panels are night and day as far as SQ goes.
As far as the 4080 sub encolsure goes, 350$ a side is a bit more pricey for a box then i wanted to go but it does have a good location and the correct internal volume so i wil probably try my hand a fabbing something similar to it myself.!???!
