Radar Detectors...

Considering adding a Radar detector to my vehicle... I like the idea of the iRadar from cobra...

http://gizmodo.com/5677026/iradar-de...adar-detection

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-20019638-48.html

Other option is a Passport 8500

Anyone have any suggestions or ideally some hands on information about the iRadar???

Thanks

Seems cool, but if I get one, it's not going to be one that seems to be selling a gimmick. Valentine One is consistently the best you can get. The photo and speed trap features look good on that, but there's standalone apps that can do that for you already.

Good call... and sincerely thank you for consistently answering my and everyone else's questions in the audio video forum. It seems like without you around we would be talking to ourselves.

Thank you Wrathernaut!

I've gotten by driving for almost 15 years now without a speeding ticket and no radar detector, so a radar detector seems like a waste to me, but some areas are more notorious than others for police funding tactics than where I've lived.

Maybe I'm just more observant when I'm driving than most. Never been surprised by a cop, and the one accident I've been in was being rear-ended on the freeway, seeing it coming turned it from being sandwiched between a stopped truck and one going 60mph, into a truck hitting me while I was moving about 30mph and accelerating into the shoulder. No injuries and it was a rental car, so it was a net gain, since I had a nearly empty tank at the time

I personally use a Passport Escort 9500ix. Both the 9500ix and Valentine V2 have been the top 2 contenders for being overall the best radar detector the past 5 years. Reason why I chose the 9500ix was because of the auto-learn feature which filters out all the false alarms as well as the built in gps that detects all the red light cameras as well as speed traps. I also noticed that quite a few people have jumped the ship to Escort after using the V2 for a few years. If I had to save one bad thing about the Valentine, it would be that is veryyy loud and annoying when it does beep. But thats my 2cents. Good luck finding a detector for you! :]

What about the escort Qi45??? How does this compare to the 9500ix?

I am glad to be getting this advice particularly because I can get escort products discounted through work...

i use a 8500 x50 everyday

it works great on a long straight road

Remember that no radar detector is 100%

if a cop is doing instant on and your the only car on the road, you have no chance.

Same with laser, by the time your radar detector shows laser the cop is on the way to get you.

Other than that, if you just want security, then get a escort/bel or V1.

I have had a Valentine 1 for at least 6 years and no tickets. This is saying a lot because i drive fast and aggressive. I have had others and Valentine is most reliable for short and long term!

Redline tops them all - pair it with a SC55 gps unit - no falses, long range.

I've always loved my V2.. but, lately i've been getting a ton of false alarms around Columbus, Ohio on the outerbelt. Seems like the overhead electronic traffic signs on our freeways triggers them.. Happens in Cincinnati, also.. (only on the outerbelts in both cities)

Anyway, I'm just another person that is considering a move to that Passport from a V2. But, V2's are still one of the top 3 units out there, in my opinion.

I personally have the passport 8500. It works every single time, I do get false alarms though. I just turn off the off all the other bands, the only band cops use around me are KA and laser.
