Issues with PA15-NIS and A/C-Radio Controls on 06' G35X
Issues with PA15-NIS and A/C-Radio Controls on 06' G35X
Hello Chaps,
I wonder if you could help me out on issues I am having with my recently purchased 06' G35X and recently installed PA15-NIS.
My A/C and radio controls seemed to be working fine before I installed my USA SPEC PA15-NIS. My car does not have NAVI or Sat Radio.
After installing the PA15 my A/C and Radio controls freeze up intermittently such that nothing works. When I get the failure my Ipod is playing fine and then I get a single beep and the whole lot freezes up.
I called USA SPEC and they said they have never seen this issue before and suggested I get a new unit under warranty from Crutchfield.
Before I go through that process I wanted to check here to see if you guy's had some bright ideas that maybe able to resolve this problem.
TIA Chaps,
Ben

You might just be experiencing the famous A/C & radio problem of our cars. You seem to have the symptoms of the famous problem.. Though I am not 100% sure, you should look into it. I wish I could be more of a help..
If you're experiencing the famous problem, you should just replace the radio and A/C controller all together while you can still get you money back for the Ipod adapter.
As far as I know, our stock radio/AC controller is bound to experience the famous problem sooner or later.
Does your Radio still work while the radio is malfunctioning?
Does your AC go into Auto AC and you cant turn it off because the AC controller buttons dont work?
Does your AC and radio turn on by itself?

When the lock up occurs the A/C is locked on and none of the radio or A/C controls work. They are dead, no lights.
I disconnected the PA15-NIS and everything now works perfectly. All the radio and A/C controls work fine.
I am thinking the PA15-NIS is causing this problem.

That's great then..I hope the problem doesn't occur anymore.. But if it does, you know what to do..
That exact symptom is what I experienced with mine and just replaced the radio and AC controller.

For those that are interested. I changed out the PA15-NIS and still had the same problem.
I had a feeling it was the radio portion that was causing the problem because a gentle tap on the right hand side of the radio would bring everything back.
I decide to take the head unit into a local electronics repair place that had knowledge of the Clarion HU. They resoldered all the main connections on the radio and the A/C control board. There were some dry solder joints on the radio board. It cost me $100 so a cheap repair as I am happy with the OEM HU and do not wish to drop $800 on a new set-up.
This problem is clearly a solder connect issue that only gets worse over time due to the heating and cooling of the boards.
So far so good, my Ipod interface works perfectly as does the HU.
Thanks all,
Ben
