Subs and amps

i just bought two 10W3V3-4 JL Audio 10" 500 Watt 4 Ohm Subwoofers

Now people keep telling me to buy the 10" or 12" W6v2 subs

are they that much better?

i listen to 90's rap, metal, techno, house, and classic rock. i want them to hit hard and sound clear

i can get one 12" W6v2 pretty much for the price of the two 10" W3v3 should i do it?

now for amps i can get a 500/1v2 - JL Audio 500 Watt Mono Amplifier for just the sub(s) and a 300/4 - JL Audio 4 Ch. Amplifier for the component speakers and headunit? or the 300/4v2 - JL Audio 300 Watt 4-Channel Amplifier?

or should i get one amp to power it all?

MHD900/5 - JL Audio 5 Channel 900 Watt Class D Amplifier

Im so confused, any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
-Wes

The 10w3 isn't a sound quality woofer, and for its price you can definitely get something better, but if rap, techno and house make up a large part of your listening, they'll be fine.

10w6's are very SQ-oriented and it's very hard to justify their price when other subs are cheaper and sound just as good (IDQ10v3, Sundown SA-10).

I prefer using separate amps so that I can run an A/B class for the full-range and a D-class for the sub, but the simplicity of a single 5-channel might be worth doing as well.

D class are more efficient, at a loss of some quality (quality difference not heard in subs), while AB are less efficent, but higher quality. Some of the new "digital" d-class, or XD, or HD or whatever letters they put on the D-class are getting pretty good at full range and high efficiency, but I'll still take the AB + D combination since it lets me pick and choose amps instead of one of relatively few 5-channel amps available.

How it ends up sounding is gonna depend more on the enclosure than the sub itself. w3's are pretty decent and will shine in the right box. Wrath is right, though..you could've got a lot better for the money.

The 10w3 is a 300w sub, not 500

As far as amps goes, these are very nice for the price. zed audio designed arc clones. built in the same factory...class gh so they're super efficient.

Get this for your subs

and this for your front stage

the enclosure will be a custom box either on the driver side or remove the spare tire and put it there

Space considerations and price aside, custom ported is always a good choice.

Uh, they're expensive (as pretty much any custom work) and take up a lot of space since the need more volume, but they are able to sound better in the range they're tuned for.

well i returned the two 10" W3v3's for one 10" W6v2 today.

the sales man kept telling me to just keep the W3v3's he said it would sound better???? he said an amp powering one sub is more stressful than powering two subs

Now next should i get a JL Audio 500/1 v2 mono for the one sub??? that amp is made for just powering subs right???

Yeah, it's a D-class amp for subs, but there's a lot cheaper options that you'll be just as happy with, and have money left over for sound deadening to get more out of what you have.
