Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD In-Dash Double-DIN DVD Multimedia AV Receiver

Has anyone replaced their stock head unit with the
Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD In-Dash Double-DIN DVD Multimedia AV Receiver. I've been browsing reviews and it seems to be a good HU with great bluetooth Ipod, SD Card integration without the nav.

WHen you switch out a head unit, does it affect the other stuff in that area like air conditioning etc?

Folks from So Cal - any recommendations on shops who can do this install??

When you swap out the radio, you will get a new AC control board for the AC unit with the dash kit you choose to buy.

It will be fine.

Did you set up a system like this one?
And do you know if the stereo can still be controlled through the ***** on the steeringwheel??

Yes, the 3200DVD supports steering wheel input with the right adapter.

See the sticky with my name in it for all your DDin questions.

Lots of people have gone with that unit, it's fantastic for the price if you never plan on doing navigation in your headunit.

The current price for it right now makes me think they're getting ready to replace it with one with either the interface of the X920BT, or at least additional iPhone support for Pandora. But it's still already got a great interface and Pandora support is good, but not worth whatever premium they plan to charge for the updated unit.

The only real con to the 3200DVD that I don't like, is the front USB input. I greatly prefer rear USB so you can hide the wire and have it go to whatever glovebox or center console you choose.

I totally agree. I recently purchased the 3200dvd and was disappointed that there was no rear usb input for the ipod cable. I returned it for the 4200dvd so I can run the ipod cable into the nav cubby where it is hidden and out of the way. It's pretty stupid imo that they make units with only front usb ports. Why would anyone want to have a cable hanging from thier head unit?

@Wrathernaut - thanks a lot for all the information -- you said

I did notice on the pioneer website that you could add on - AVIC-U220 to get navigation. DId you know anything about this?

Yeah, the add-on is more expensive and nowhere near as good as a standalone garmin unit.

Garmin's cheaper, faster, cheaper to update, will have map updates for a lot longer, portable and can be customized a lot more.

I didn't go the Pioneer route. I went with a Clarion VX400.

Again thanks guys..
Wrathernaut - Agree fully on the portable Garmin and I actually have one of those..

Any inputs to 3200DVD vs the 4200DVD (does the 4200 also need an add on blue tooth? )

If I get the 3200DVD my Ipod needs to stay in the front? Is there any way I can make a cradle for it in the cubbyhole at the back?

The 4200DVD and 3200DVD both need the add-on bluetooth adapter. Way too expensive.

The only thing about the 3200DVD I don't like - front inputs instead of rear for USB, so you have to have your cable come out of the front.

So the other option becomes the 3200BT, but I hear that audio streaming via bluetooth doesnt work with that. Pioneer and somewhere in these forums it says that it's better to get the 3200DVD and add on blue tooth.

I'm wondering if the same applies to the 4200 too.

I'm reading other reviews that say that downloading phone books etc to the blue tooth add on doesnt really work that well. What are your thoughts on that?

Also have you seen the Pioneer_AVH-P5200BT. This one looks pretty sweet -
Whats Wrathernaut's verdict on the Pioneer_AVH-P5200BT??? (besides the fact that its expensive!!! at about 475 on Amazon - but the 4200DVD + the blue tooth package costs the same)

Wow that ones a lot more expensive almost about $900 and with the JDM kit will bump me up to close to $1300

I'm actually trying to get all this done within $1000 that includes the HU, the add ons and the JDM kit

It's going to get a lot less expensive soon - Pioneer's just put out the info on the X930BT, which adds a (partial) detachable face and moves the USB port to the rear. Looks good:

Right now, you can get it for $730 if you shop around:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...IC-X920BT.html

It goes down to under $600 fairly often, if you keep your eyes open.
