Stereo / Climate Control Failure

I have a 2003 G35 sedan with Bose stereo/CD changer. For the past month or so my stereo display has gone black and I've lost control of the climate control system. I can sometimes control the stereo via the steering wheel controls and the climate control just has a mind of its own. Searching these forums I've come across ITB03-007 / Campaing P3104. I downloaded the instructions for this service campaign and took the car to my mechanic last Friday. He obtained the part from Infiniti and installed it, following the instructions in the bulletin. After he was done everything seemed to be working perfectly. I drove the car home and for the first 10 minutes all was well. Then the stereo display went dark (though I could control it via the steering wheel controls) and I lost control of the climate control system. What a disappointment! $275 down the toilet ....

I'm looking for any additional ideas as to how I should go about getting this corrected. I know I could take it to the dealer, though I'd rather not. I'm in the Los Angeles, California area. More specifically, Pasadena. Can anyone refer me to a good shop that knows how to deal with Infiniti electronics?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

This happens to my car once or twice every month, sometimes the next time I turn the car on everything is back to normal, sometimes I have to "reboot" the car by taking off the negative battery terminal for a few minutes. However I have next lost climate control and I usually can still control the stereo through the steering wheel.

Other than that I can remember once I turn the key and the entire car was dead electrically, no power anything, no cluster, no stereo or climate, no cabin lights. Reboot the car and everything is fine, never happened again. Weird.

His statement means thus:

That $275 is half of what you'd spend doing a good double din aftermarket radio replacement. Less of a message to you than it is a helpful warning to others who think it's "too expensive" to go double din and opt to pay anything to cling to the factory SHunIT.

You can actually do a single-din aftermarket unit for about $260 if you go metra and don't keep steering wheel controls, and $300 to keep the controls working, if you do the labor yourself.

Cool

I have a 2005 g35. It seems like 03's are the ones with a lot of these problems, however my cd player stopped working as well. Is my climate control and radio going to go next?

Is it better to replace the factory cd player (cause i can have my dual climate control and keep my steering wheel functions)

Or should i get an aftermarket head unit?

You can have dual climate control, steering wheel controls, and aftermarket hu. You just have to get the parts to do it. Search in the audio section for write ups and pics.

Wrathernaut has a sticky posted on everything u need for a dd hu replacement. I just got all my stuff in to do mine but every stereo place around me wants 300+ for install. Im thinking of doing it myself.

^ What superman331 said x2.

You can keep steering wheel and dual with aftermarket, and it's not going to die down the road like every other factory headunit in these cars.
