Stock Navi v. Navbox v. carputer
Hey guys. I am about to purchase a 2005 coupe and was planning on getting the stock navigation. I was going to mod it to play DVD and rear view camera. The questions, am I better off not getting the stock navi and going with something like the Navbox (modded Xbox...which I have, though not modded) or something like god_of_cpu's carputer. Which is the best way to go for the money? TIA

If you want to put a carputer in, you definitly don't want the stock NAV, the resoultion will suck and you can't get a touchscreen for it. If you just want navigation and DVD or xBox and money's not an issue, I would go with stock NAV and get the AV Electronics mod for it, it will be easier and possibly be more accurate then adding a screen and aftermarket head units afterwards, however, expect to spend an extra $1000 going with a stock solution. You can easily add a decent NAV system, DVD player, and x-Box for under $2000 using my screen, however, I don't know if it will work with the changes made to the 2005 interior.

i've been researching the same question, so i might as well post. originally i was gonna go with the av electronics box to hook up a carputer (not a modded x-box) to the nav screen. the only way to hook it up this way is through the s-video output of the computer which = crap, also like god_of_cpu said, there's no touch screen, which means a mini mouse or keyboard has to go somewhere.
my plan now is to build the computer, write some custom software for it. i'm gonna use the PAC audio to hook up the audio through the SAT input. for video, i'm not gonna waste my money on the av electronics box ($350-400 i think) when i can get a 7" Xenarc touchscreen for the same price, with better quality video and easier controls.
if you got any more questions or wanna talk about our ideas more, PM me.
