Spacers for front speakers?

Hi Guys,

while trolling the forums i've seen, read, and heard some people state that when replacing the front speakers they needed spacers? If not spacers then they needed to drill new holes? I'm preparing to start my new system and was wondering if this was accurate and if so, does anybody have any suggested spacers/tools/equip etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For reference i plan to use these speakers:

Hertz: MLK165
Hertz: HCX 690 for the rear deck.

Thanks!

Yes, you need spacers, or you can hack the old speaker up and use pieces of it, but I don't recommend it.

zenclosures.com has great ones. Just check the diameter of the hole needed for those hertz ones and order them.

Hey Wrathernaut,

Would you happen to know another vendor aside from Zenclosures? I'm having a tough time getting a hold of them to find out which spacers to buy. It seems my mounting diameter is 'in the middle'. Hertz' websites lists depths at 144 which would puts me at 5.6 inches, just shy of the 5.75" diameter spacer. I've been trying to call and see if the 5 3/4(5.75) would fit but haven't had much luck.

Any suggestions? you feel the 5.75's would fit? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Amen, thank you very much! i actually got to that calculation too.. i just wasn't sure how exact the measurements needed to be. 144mm for me came out to be 5.66 Inches.. so i figured 5.75 makes sense but wasnt sure if it was a rule of thumb to buy smaller, meaning go with 5.5

Thanks liquidclen.!
