'07 G35 Coupe and Ipod options

Hey guys, I know this has been covered but I can't seem to figure out what I need to get. I just purchased an 07 coupe MT with the Bose system, no SAT radio. I just want to connect my iPod to it. I've seen the variety of options and adapters out there but i want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks in advance for any help.

And yes, I love the car!

Well, if you get a half-decent iPod adapter, that's money that'll be thrown away when the headunit dies (which it will). If you save now to put the money into an aftermarket headunit, you'll get much, much better iPod support and a headunit that will work long after the factory headunit has died.

Good advice. Thank you. I have already begun looking into an Alpine Nav unit and the Metric Dash kit.

Uh, that's Metra, not metric. Good choice on a budget standpoint, but it definitely doesn't come close to the JDM kit in quality.

Not a huge fan of Alpine units myself, they always just seem to come up short in the price/performance/features comparison with Pioneer and Kenwood, but I haven't checked on their latest units, which are you looking at?

I realized it was Metra right after I posted. Thanks for the info. I've heard the JDM unit is better. Do any vendors here sell it?

I'm looking at the INA-W900BT. I'm not married to the Alpine idea, but the last time I had a HU in my car it was Alpine and I loved it. I'd love to save some money so I'd take any suggestions.

Yeah, a few do, check my shopping list sticky at the top of this forum for direct links to PM those that do.

For the price of that one, check out the Pioneer AVIC-X920BT, definitely better iPod support and interface, and I'm a huge fan of the voice search capabilities with iPod and the navigation.

Thanks Wrathernaut, I'm really glad you pointed out the differences between the Metra and JDM unit. I would have been enormously disappointed with the car's blueMetra kit. It really looks cheap and I like my car too much for that.

On aside note, if I do add a new HU, do you know how, if at all, it will affect my car's bluetooth feature? I really like how it works now and I'd rather not change it.

If you search deep enough in this forum, you'll find a reply to a post about bluetooth where I detailed what would be necessary to keep the factory bluetooth with an aftermarket unit. It's little more than a few relays to switch the steering wheel control inputs and audio routing, however, if you get a unit like the X920BT or INA-W900BT, it will have bluetooth superior to the factory bluetooth.
