Upgrading sound system

I have a 2004 G35 Coupe and would like some serious sound system upgrades.
Bought the car last summer and the 6 -CD changer has never worked, infiniti dealership says its like $300 something dollars to get a new one sent in but if its a bad product I don't want the same one. What would be a good car stereo to put in there to replace the current one, nothing too expensive doesn't have to be a touch screen or anything just something that is CD and IPOD compatible. Also I was thinking of buying this sub box for the trunk http://subthump.com/Infinity-Sub-Box...Enclosure.html
and putting a 12" sub in it. You guys think this would work out alright? Or would this one be better? http://subthump.com/Infinity-Sub-Box...Enclosure.html

Any sound system / car stereo advice would be helpful.

tons of topics about this

there is a sticky above all these posts that will help you

the sub boxes you posted will sound ok, but nothing compared to a custom enclosure

If you are looking to just add some sound, then the boxes you posted will be fine.

99% of headunits these days are iPod and CD compatible, so pick whatever's cheap and looks good to you. If you have further requirements, post them up.

I guess I mean, do you recommend any? And are they easy to install?
And what custom enclosure boxes are there if I want to leave as much space in the trunk as possible but still have a sub or subs

Those boxes are meh. They seal off the trunk from the cabin. 4080 could work if you can find one.

I am a fan of Pioneer and Kenwood's units. The difference in installing different units is pretty trivial.

Uhh do you mean one like this?
http://www.4080enclosures.com/shop40...sp?idProduct=2
$365....is kind of a lot. Would the bass be weird if I only had this on one side? or would it feel the same no matter what seat you were in?
And what amp would I need to buy if I were to go with a 10 or 12" sub. Everything else in the car is stock

If space is a concern, you need A LOT of power to get a respectable amount of output. 2 high xmax shallows and a lot of power would do the trick. It'll cost you, though.

1. Low End extension
2. Small Box
3. Efficiency

Pick 2.

Okay what if I was to not get a sub and all that and just replace all my current stock speakers with aftermarket ones, would I get a reasonable amount of bass? Like if I replaced the Bose one's with like kickers or pioneer or kenwood. planning on getting this headunit, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/JVC+-+50...&skuId=9783876
would that be able to handle a sub?

edit: are there any good powered subwoofers that would fit well in the trunk of a g35?
like would this be good ?

Needs to be a shallow mount 12. I've heard great things about the alpine type r slim http://www.woofersetc.com/p-9312-swr...subwoofer.aspx

Get a monster 4 channel to power it all

no that amp is garbage.

you didn't add a budget for an amp, but these would be nice

Soundstream reference 4.920. One of the cleaner amps on the market. I never liked how they looked, but they're awesome amps.

It'll give you 160 x 2 @ 4 ohms + 460 x 1 @ 4 ohms. Price is $399 http://www.woofersetc.com/p-7745-ref...amplifier.aspx

2nd would be the soundstream hru.4. I don't have any experience with them but i've heard great things about them.

This one will give you 140 x 2 for the comps + 480 x 1 @ 4 for a sub. Priced at $499 http://www.woofersetc.com/p-7737-hru...amplifier.aspx
