Benefits of having subs wired to back of headunit vs tapped into rear 6x9s?

Long story short. I had subs installed about a year ago... wasnt planning on getting a headunit... Now i got a headunit on the way and the best price ive gotten is $200 to install the ddin and run all of my wires (ipod, backup camera, gps, and bluetooth mic) but they want an extra $50 to extend the (already wired) subs from the 6x9s to the sub out of the headunit.... Are there any benefits to doing this?

$50 to run a pair of RCAs to the truck...That is a rip off. I used to install at two separate shops and that is rediculus. But to answer your question, Yes, it is better to run them off the headunit with a proper signal. Not to mention, you should be able to control it better from a headunit.

good luck!

That's not really a rip off. They gotta take apart the dash to get to the hu, hide the wiring + loom & ziptie, & put it all back together.

I believe if u have the subs connected to the back of the head unit u can adjust the sound of the subs better (depending on the head unit)

50$ Not too bad but u can easily run the cables yourself

Shop labor rates at $100/hr makes this not a rip off, it's just something that takes time to do right, but it is something you can do yourself.

Just remove the rear seats, fish the wires across the hump in the back and run the RCAs through the center console to the ash tray area yourself and they can plug them in.

Where are you located? If you're anywhere near Georgia, I can help you with the DDin install and sub hookup for less than $50 worth of pizza & mountain dew.

Would i be better off paying Best Buy's flat rate per job? Or should i go to another audio shop that charged $95 an hour?

Hm. Orlando...

That's like a 5 hour drive to me in Savannah, and less than 1 tank of gas each way:
$30 in pizza & beverages + $120 in gas and 10 hours of driving + install time... It's up to you.

Leave at like 7am on a Sunday or Saturday from your location in Orlando, we can install and have lunch, and you'll be home for dinner.

PM me if you're up for it. I'm always game.

Yeah this is a rip off. If they are already charging you $200 bucks for the install to run "all" the wiring, why are they charging $50 more. They have to run the wires for the back up cam already so they will have the panels out that they need to have out. It sounds like they are adding the $50 bucks because you are not buying the amp and subs from them, even so, with what you are having them do why not just run the wires with everything else. IMHO

Good luck with the install, if this guy hasn't done a G35 install before, this radio removal guide of mine should be all he'll need:
