Warranty issue on head unit

Hey guys, I have a problem where the sound cuts out from my driver side speakers whenever I play burned CDs. My friend, who also has the problem, says its due to a faulty headunit. The dealer confirmed this when I brought the car in a couple days ago, but he says that its not going to be covered under warranty. He says because the problem is due to burned CDs, they are not required to cover it. I think this is ridiculous. Is there any way to fight this?

Re: Warranty issue on head unit

I am having the same problem (off and on) right now. There's another post that says try to remove all of the cds and put them back in. That hasn't worked for me. The problem isn't from burned cds... I didn't have any burned ones in when it happened to me. Took my car in for the brakes a few days ago and mentioned the problem (wasn't happening when I took it in) and the rep said that if it was a common problem, he'd just order a new h/u for me..but since he'd never heard of that, couldn't do anything. If it doesn't fix itself soon, I'll print out a copy of the other post and take it to him...

Re: Warranty issue on head unit

I have been through 2 HU so far and my car is only 10 months old. Both times the cd player went out and the display read "check disk" I took it back to the dealer each time and got a new HU put in. In reference to your problem with the front speakers cutting out, I had the same problem wright after I had my system installed. I thought that it was bad wire job and was ready to take it back to the audio shop to have them look at it. That same day my HU went out and after install of new HU all is working perfectly. Im assuming it was the faulty HU. It sucks to have to keep goin in every few months to get a new HU...

Re: Warranty issue on head unit

After warrenty expires you are screwed. I might swap out mine with aftermarket but even still 2 bad head units in 5 months time is not a good thing. Hopefully the 05s will not have problems like this.I guess I could always sell my HU to someone on forum who has expired warrenty and wants stock deck back in without having to pay outrageous dealer prices...

my understanding (so far) is that we just continue replacing head units w/ every oil change....
