HD Radio Issue

Hey everyone

I just got my head unit installed and everything and i got a pioneer HD radio unit for the radio.

However once I put on the radio it seems like the stations are even worse than before, lots of static and etc.

Do you think it's a matter of where I placed the HD radio unit? Does it need to be somewhere exposed or high up on the car? Or is it something else that's causing the problem?

Thanks!

The HD radio unit uses the standard FM antenna so its location should not affect anything, but with that unit and the antenna amplifier and possibly an audio amplifier all using the same wire as a power signal, that the voltage is too low for the antenna amplifier to power on completely or at all.

Try connecting the antenna amplifier (probably labeled power antenna) signal wire to the cigarette lighter power wire and see if the problem remains.

i dont think that's the issue for the HD radio unit..

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure we wired the HD radio unit directly to the battery.. i'll double check and repost

thanks for the help!

If it's wired directly to the battery, it'll be draining it slowly. If it's connected to accessory, then it shouldn't be causing the issue you're experiencing.
