Desperatly need help with Avic-80

Sorry I don't have a G35. I have a BMW Z4. I'm having problem with my Pioneer Avic-80 and I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing works. It's been 1 month and I'm just getting more and more frustrated. I'd really appreciate it if any of you experts can give me some advice and pin-point me to the more likely solutions.

I had an Pioneer Avic-N1. It was having positioning inaccuracy problem as it was always 30-50 yards behind the actually position.

I have since then switched to a Pioneer AVIC-80 (and AVH-P7500). The same problem still exists. It's always 30-40 yards behind my actual position, and always THREE seconds too late when crossing intersections.

I've so far done the following:
1) Hooked up speed pulse wire & reverse wire
2) Moved GPS atenna to the center of the dash near the windshield
3) Moved GPS atenna to the top of the trunk, outside of the car
4) Re-setted the GPS brain many times
5) Re-checked all the wires and made sure the nav brain is mounted properly
6) Called Pioneer hotline 3 times and they couldn't provide any help

My installer is very experienced (more than 15 years) and he's intalled more than 20 nav systems that never had this problem. I've searched online and there are other Z4 owners who installed the Avic-80 and Avic-N1 and did not have any problems.

If anyone has experienced this same issue and has resolved it, please give me advice. I just feel so frustrated now especially after shedding out so much money and trying everything I can think of:-( I'd really appreciate it too if anyone has any possible solutions.

i have the eclipse AVN 2454, and you have to manually set your position and direction before doing anything navi-related... did you do that yet??

For the AVIC-N1, there a new update (1.2) that corrects some positional issues. However you can adjust the position as a configuration setting to make it more accurate.

Hi,

I tried to manually modify the location (red cursor), it's then accurate as long as I keep going straight and don't make any left/right turn.

Once I make a turn, it shows that I'm going off-road. The satellites then correct it, and thus I'm once again always 30 yards behind.

coolsk8er,

It appears that the "speed pulse wire" isn't connected to the back of the speedometer. That wire changed for the 04s. You do have an 04, right?

Check out This post.

You can also look at this other post, but it looks like the first one more clearly explains the solution.

Let us know what happens.

Re: Desperatly need help with Avic-80

Hi, dave

My speed pulse wire is connected to the exact same pin on the back of the instrument cluster. I checked my connection status and it does show that I'm getting the speed pulse, once the car starts rolling.

I checked the IS300.net forum and a few people have the same problem with their Avic-N1's, but no one posted any solution. I couldn't register there and ask questions because I only have an hotmail email account and they don't let people register with hotmail/yahoo accounts.

Another person from another forum suggested that there might be some kind of interference in the car. If so, does anyone know how I can detect that interference (either using any kind of electronic device or manually)? And how can I prevent it?

Re: Desperatly need help with Avic-80

You could try a couple of diagnostics...

1. Disconnect the speed pulse wire (so the system is only getting the GPS input), and drive the car.

2. Re-connect the speed pulse wire and disconnect the GPS antenna, and drive the car.

How does the system react in those cases? This should indicate if you are only getting readings from one of the two inputs, or if one of the two inputs is giving faulty readings.

speed pulse has nothing to do with it. Mine was always 2 seconds behind like yours. I've recently sold my AVIC-N1 so i cant really tell you how the Version 1.2 DVD acts.

Speed pulse is only for hills and dips, and the general curvature of the Earth's surface, its also for when you lose Sat signal in parking structures.

Unfortunately i have no solution for you, besides selling the dam thing
