New Nissan Sat antenna - Internal !!

Over on FA, Danny (Grubbs Infiniti GM) announced that a new internal Sat antenna will be available soon, with a Nissan part number. It is supposed to fit any model 2003-2005. No further details yet. Post is here.

A "dufus"?

You're aware that the stock XM/Sirius premium package cars all have external antennas, right?

From that other thread, the antenna doesn't sound so much like a new type of internal antenna so much as just a terk micro antenna with instructions to mount it inside of the car.

DFW is adding information in thread saying the new antenna will be a glass-mount type, installed at the top inside of either the windshield (near the mirror) or rear glass. The difference between this and others is that the latter cannot be installed on glass.

I personally have an XMicro hidden beneath the CMHSL housing. It works OK there about 98.5% of the time, but sometimes the dropouts are annoying. A new design, specific to the car and designed for (reverse) glass mount should be a perfect improvement.

Re: New Nissan Sat antenna - Internal !!

I wonder if it is the same antenna that Sirius had a press release about (see link below). Unfortunately, I'm now a doofus as well. I had to move my antenna outside because of the dropouts on my Sirius when it was on the rear deck. I have tint, which was there when I bought the car and I have no idea if it is metallic. I now have a Terk SIRMINI mounted at the base of my rear glass. The reception has improved and it is not as noticeable as mounting on the trunk or roof.

My XM micro antenna is on the rear deck. It works fine 99% of the time. The only dufus's are the people not listening to XM radio of buying Sirius stock!

Modding it to put it inside the cabin... under the tint that would only make my reception that much worse would be the "dufus" thing to do, in my opinion. I think I'd rather have better reception than a "clean" roofline.

And actually, I don't think the stock antennas look bad. Always getting asked by people what it is....

Here is the pic of this new thing from Grubbs. Note that it will require the splitter like most of the newer, small antennas. Remember you are looking at the inboard side of the unit. The antenna side is on the back, facing the glass.

XM is OK! I like their easy listening stations but SIRIUS has a slightly better Rock selection. Also, their "figure 8" satellite pattern works out much better than XM for me where I am.

All said, I would have gone with XM if the reception was better just because of the easy listening stations.

Very interesting. How hard it is it to run the wire in the headliner in this car?

wow, that thing looks GIANT compared to the micro TERK model.

I have my micro on the back deck, and I have metalic tint. The only drop outs I get are in tunnels and large overpasses. I never have drops outs otherwise. WHomever said tint would effect reception was misinformed.
