steering wheel controls

I replaced the stereo and finally installed the steering wheel controls but do to the fact that they are over 8 years old now i feel that they are not working properly. i have to shove and push hard on the buttons to get a response.

does anyone know where i can buy just the steering wheel control for the audio part? cruise control still works fine

I'd try reprogramming it, holding each button a little longer when programming each button.

Also, making sure the steering wheel adapter and reference grounds are cleanly grounded separate from everything else goes a long way in helping it work more responsively.

You just go through the programming steps for the adapter. The steering wheel controls are nothing more than buttons that toggle resistors that are read by the factory or aftermarket radio. There's no sensitivity, but if the resistance of the button wasn't recorded well by the adapter by not holding the button long enough, or because the poor ground is causing the resistance to be inconsistent, that will cause the system to be unresponsive. What the radio does with then is entirely up to the programming.
