what all do i need for navi?
so i'm getting my g tomorrow and it doesn't come with navigation. i've been thinking of searchin the salvage yards and such for the navi system but, i'm wondering, what all would i need to have a functioning navigation? anyone added navi themselves? any input is appreciated. thanks.
I agree with RIOT. It would be cheaper to get a Garmin or a Double Din with Nav. Some DD will allow you to use your Iphones nav. Then again, it's pretty baller when the OEM Nav pops up and the "Infiniti" Fuji shows up.
I actually have a similar question on a project I would like to start in a few months.
If I were to get the monitor (including the housing and motorized pop-up), and replaced the oem screen with a touch screen or any other screen, would I still need the harness?
In other words, I don't care about the navigation itself, just the screen being in the factory location. I can always hook my phone up to it or get an aftermarket gps or carpc, etc.
I've just heard evil things about the harness and don't think that's a project I would want to take on if I'd have to get one. I also don't really like the DD location.... maybe if it were up a little higher.
My car is an '06 AT Coupe with Bose. I've read a lot on putting the stock navi in but haven't really found much about just getting the screen.

I think it would depend on if the power for the motorized screen is tied into the harness of the radio or if it's tied into the harness for the nav controls. If it's tied into the nav controls, I would think you could always tap it into a different power source.

Definitely stay away from the factory navigation. The center cubby is more useful. I wouldn't install one if I was given all the components for free.
As for just using the housing, there's a sensor built-in sot hat it will drop if there's something interfering with it raising, so without the circuit to support that, you might need that to get it to work.

Of course, since I rarely even pop it up, the oil change reminders aren't that useful either.
So gentleman, I have a oem nav system from an auto 03 g35, if i want to put that into my car which is an manual 03 g35, would that be possible to do? The dash harness from the navi g35 will come wit the nav system. Will it be a plug n play once I have that harness installed into my car or will it be more wiring issue? Such as signal coming from the body harness? I would like to know if I can install it. if not then I'll just keep it on the fs list.
