Not to threadjack, but Wrathernaught- does that trim ring pull the deck out beyond the kit a little? So it goes (Kit/Trim/Deck) and the deck then sticks out a bit OR does it go (Deck/Trim/Kit) so it sits back a little? On my install I opted not for the trim ring, but they fabricated a trim-piece to slide over the back of the deck and fill the gap, so the deck is flush with the kit...just curious...

You can trim the trim ring however you want, its very thin. I have mind behind the JDM kit.

The ring is very thin, like, 8 sheets of paper thick, and should not affect the position of the radio in any way. The radio screws in via the factory bracket holes (or new holes of your own making) - that determines how much the deck sticks out or recesses. A thick trim plate (like the Metra 99-9999) could be thick enough to necessitate moving the radio back and drilling new holes, depending on the radio.
