Hey guys the 2004 g35 coupe according to online car stereo has 6.5 in the front with tweeters and a 4 inch in the rear panels. Instead of buying all these speakers seperately can I just buy a 3 way component set for the front and rear panels? (tweeter included) It sounds like a good idea to me. any opinions are welcome.

 

well let me start this off by saying, it really would help to know what u drive. coupe/sedan? year doesnt matter but im curious? and bose or non bose?

 

Not sure if that info is correct, but if could be. Reason I say that is that my 05 coupe (with Bose) has the 6.5/tweeter front and a 6.5 in the rear panels. I'd double check another source to verify, or wait for someone here with an 04 to chime in.

That being said, you could do that, but it wouldn't be advised. The 3 way system would include a passive crossover to divide which sound frequencies go to which speakers (keep them all playing the frequency ranges they're designed for) so if you had your 4" mid behind you the front stage would not sound very good at all. You'd have a large gap in playback between where the 6.5" is cut off and the tweeter kicks in that is left open for the 4" to have something to do. This will vary some depending on which specific 3 way set you went with, but to some extent it will happen.

Many folks, when upgrading the audio (especially in the coupes since the backseats don't typically see as much use as a sedan) choose to remove/not replace the rear speakers and spend some extra on better fronts.

You could still go with a 3 way system up front using the door location and build something in the kick for your 4" and tweeter, but as I'm finding out it's a pretty slow process

Short answer: No, it wouldn't be advisable.

 

Yeah, whatever source told you you have 4" in the rear is wrong.

6.5" up front, 6.5" rear, and if you've got bose, 6x9" in the rear deck.

And using a 3-way component system like that would be terrible. Get some good two-way components in the front and don't put anything in the rear.

Oh, you could use 3-way components all up front too, just do some custom work in the doors to house all 3. That'd be really good.

 

I'd probably put the mid or tweet..or even both in the a pillar to raise the sound stage.

 

sorry but im not good enough to do the custom work haha. 2 way components in the front with the 6x9's in the rear deck with 2 tens sound good? leaving out the rear panels completely? this sounds like the better idea to me. anyways its a 2004 coupe with bose. I dont think there are 6.5's in the rear panels. theres just no way. 5.25 at the most. im not doubting u but i mean the grill they have over it (part of the panel) is super small and on top of that the 6.5 would def not fit.

Not from cali. And why would I ever just wasn't have fronts. It's a 4 passenger car for a reason

6x9s aren't advisable with subs in the trunk. The 6x9s are exposed from the bottom to the trunk airspace and subs will push enough air to prevent the 6x9 from moving the way it wants to (there'll be back pressure, it'll distort, rattle, and sound like crap). Set the system up to sound good to you, and if you're feeling nice the front passenger, forget about the back seat.

Here's a picture of what's behind the rear panel in an 05 Coupe with Bose. It's the same ugly 3 whole 6.5 that's in the front doors.

As for rear passengers? Who cares?
#1 - If you have passengers you care about, you're probably talking instead of listening to music in the first place.
#2 - Do you place speakers around every single seat in your house? No? Didn't think so. Your passengers in the rear seat will be happy with the music from the front as well.
