Re: audio system

Yea, me too bro. I think the rest of the system is pretty nice and I don't want to give up the clean look and sweet steering wheel controls that you get with the Bose, but I have to do something about the subwoofer, just not enough deep bass. For those of you who have put in aftermarket 10's or 12's with an amp, could you please tell me where you tapped into the system, and did you use the high level (speaker) inputs directly, or did you use a converter and use the low level(RCA) inputs to the amp. Also, where did you mount the speaker box, just free in the trunk, or right up against the backseats. Please send pics if you got em. Thanks.

Re: audio system

Hi.. I dont have any good pics of the system yet.. maybe tomorrow ill take and post some..Basilly the stock head unit has no preouts... therefore if your going to use the stock head you have to get an rca adaptor which basiclly plugs into one of your speaker outputs in the back of the head unit, give syou a pre out, then connects the speaker back...

I currently have mine connected to the rear left side speaker.. then the wire goes from the head unit all the way back to the trunk where i have two 12" solo baric L7 subwoofers and a mmats d-class 1400wrms amplifier.. it works out pretty well...

if you dont want that much bass I would suggest getting like a bazooka tube.. www.bazooka.com

Re: audio system

Pesti,
Thanks for the info, I would love to see some pics. By the way, what did you do with your subs, is it a free box in the trunk, or is it mounted to the backseat. If mounted, do the backseats dampen the sound much or do you ride with the trunk pass thru open.
Also, did you do the work yourself or can you recommend someone to do it. Thanks

Re: audio system

Ill post pics sometime tomorrow.. The box of subs is in the back pushed as far back as it can go to the seats facing the trunk.. Im using industrial strength velcro (you can get it from any fabric store) to hold it in place.. and damn! it does the trick..

Im using Solo Baric L7 subwoofers so they are designed to work with the air they have.. I played around with it and diddnt find much difference, so I just leave the pass through closed... however my old Rockford Fosgate XLC's needed more air to work with...

I had a local al & eds autosound work on my system becuase I thaught that if I broke somthing.. i would be responsible.. this way.. if they broke somthing.. I would tell them to fix it I watched the guy do the whole install.. helped him with things here and there.. took him about two hours..

Pesti,
What Happened to those photos bro, I am eager to see what you did and hook up my ride the same. By the way, do the back seat passengers get a back massage or what when your bass is kicking. Any rattles in the trunk when you are standing outside the car? Thanks.

Re: audio system

sorry -- i knew I should have posted the pics.. i took them just havent posted them yet.. soon... i promise!
yeah the back seat passengers do feel it pretty good when its hitting..... rattles? you always are going to have rattles if you push 1400wrms in the trunk (1400watts rms, = around 2800watts peak) i have the whole trunk dynamatted which did help with the rattles ALOT... but there is still a little rattle..

Re: audio system

Thanks for the reply Pesti, I can't wait to see what you have done. Just wondering, did you have to take the back seats off to put the speakers in, or did you just custom build a box to fit that area in the trunk right behind the seats. By the way, do you live in the SoCal area, I live in Corona, and would love to check out your install in person if at all possible. Thanks.

Re: audio system

Okay I finally have the pictures..
to answer your questoins: yeah I did take the back seats off, but not to put the speakers in.. just to be safe when i screw the amplifier to the back of the trunk..
and I built a custom box in the trunk for the subs.. (custom box dosen't mean custom trunk.. just a box with the specificatoins the speakers need to work at their peak preformance). here are the pics:

Re: audio system

Sweet pics bro. That's what I was waiting to see. So tell me, with your subs facing the tailgate like they are in the picture, do you get enough of the sound coming through the back seats to make a big difference? And do you drive with that little pass thru door between the rear seats down to improve the sound that comes through, or does it not really make much difference?

Thanks for all of your input so far, I can't wait to go out and do a similar install, just maybe with a slightly smaller box and maybe with 10's, we'll see. Thanks again Pesti.

Re: audio system

Hey Thanks...
Enough sound comes out The goal is for the bass to hit the trunk then bounce back into the car..

Having the little pass through dosent make much difference... actually I cant hear any difference with it open or closed...

) Have fun! Take pics when youve installed..
