Re: audio system

Hey pesti! With a setup like that, I thought the goal was for the bass to hit the trunk lid, making the trunk lid a kind of passive radiator so that all the cars and ppl around you could enjoy your tunes!

Re: audio system

The stock bose sub does not have its own speaker line? The only way to do it is to splice a rear speaker? I would think that converting the wire to rcas would drastically reduce sound quality. I am trying to achieve a tight bass sound not just some rattling exploding crap. Can you give me some insight from your own experience?

i like it now, but hope this sucker lasts...

Hey Pestilence,
I was just curious as to what guage wiring you are running to your amp because in order to get a 1400watt RMS current off a 12 volt dc battery... you need a good 0 guage cable which is about as thick as a garden hose. I run my own mobile electronics company and I'm just lettin you know that what the amp says it can put out isn't gonna be the case in your car. Off a 10 foot run on it looks like 4 guage cable that you have... you cant possibly squeeze more than 1000 watts max with your capacitor on any given sub hit. Just to let you know bud so you dont sound uneducated when describing your stuff. Keep in mind that what auto electronics shops tell you isn't the case... I.E. they install 4 channel 500 watt amplifiers with 10 guage power cable and now there is no possible way the thing can output more than 200 watts of power. Just no way according to the laws of electro physics. Anyway... nice ride.. looks clean and Im sure it sounds great.

Re: audio system

the best gauge wire for pesti's system would be a 2 gauge. A 2 gauge can handle around 1700 to 2100 watts. A 4 gauge is a little shy at around 1100 to 1350 watts. Even if he has a 4 gauge, he should be fine unless he cranks it up all the way.

The bigger question is whether the stock electrical system can generate enough power to feed the amp. At around 1400 watts, the amp will probably draw around 170 amps (not including the power needed to power the door speakers. The stock alternator puts out a minimum of 110 amps. (I had mine tested and it put out 126 amps.) In normal driving with your headlights on and some accessories running, the car can take up to 60 to 70 amps from your alternator. This doesn't leave that much for the amp itself. Without upgrading the alternator, the amp will not be able to produce it's maximum power continuously.
