Good Low Priced Double Dins?

The one I bought won't fit the Metra right. I like how it has a USB and AUX upfront and the buttons can be changed to any color you can think of... but it just won't fit the metra right. So what are some other good double dins you guys have? Its either I get another one or see if I can't cut the metra in the right spots to fit right.

Can you post pictures, or better describe the fitment issues? We might be able to offer suggestions, or at the very least shout slogans at you.

A simple drill will fix the problem with the mounting location. Just drill the bracket where the holes will make for the best angle/distance in/out.

I may have to trim down the sides. Cause I took off the brackets and sleeve and the unit is still wide. Because it still doesn't look like its right. Hold on, let me get another pic with no brackets.

It could just be how it fits in the G, haven't seen it in one before. But it just doesn't seem right, and thats with no brackets.

Wrathernaut posted a great picture for you. You can mount that head unit differently, without the angled fitment, by redrilling your mounting bracket to put holes where you need them for however you'd like the headunit to fit. I had to do it with mine also, otherwise it would have stuck out over 1/4" from the trim.

That's why I asked for the pictures. I thought you were describing much the same issue I had, but wasn't certain.

Here's what you do:

cut some thin cardboard out and hold it against the JVC's sides and mark where the mounting bolts go. Then look top down at the side (like the photo above) and put the radio where you'd like it to mount, then set the cardboard on top of the bracket, aligned with the radio and mark where you need to drill.
Repeat for the other side and you can have the radio as flush, inset, or protruding as you want, at any angle you'd like.

But I don't think mine is sticking out far enough is what I'm saying. The units to wide. I'm probably just gonna go take it to a shop. Cause connecting the Axxess steering wheel piece is messing with me, and I can't take the trim from around the shifter without it starting to bend. I've just been looking at everything trying to get it straight to see if I can do it, but idk.

Wow, ok, just figured all the wiring out. Just need just a little bit more help, then I'll try this myself. In the picture is just a rough draft of everything imma crimp. But do I need that harness that I left alone if I don't have Bose or upgraded speakers? And for the Axxess, I connect the cables I left untaped into pins that are already in the car yea?

If I could get those answers I'll figure out how to mount this thing in the car and get the trim out.

Why do you need to take the trim from around the shifter? Is your car a 6MT? If it's an auto, you simply lift up the entire top console piece after you take the shift **** off. It's a two minute job.

If it's MT, sorry I can't help there.

Yea, its auto, but when I try and lift up the console piece it starts bending. I have the aluminum type finish. But I don't have the trim tool. Wal-Mart has a set for like $16 imma get tomorrow which should allow me to do that without bending it. It also comes with a crimping tool which I need too. Hopefully I can get the deck to fit right, if not imma just order the Clarion CX501. Has bluetooth and can change the colors on it like the one I have now. Just looks a little uglier.

You don't need trim tools, a rigid nylon spatula does the job just fine too. Just be sure you're separating on the sides, about 3/4" from the rear-end of the car side of the aluminum plate. If you lift from the back and not the sides, you'll bend the aluminum regardless of your tool.

That's what I did with mine, but I didn't use the Metra trim. I don't know if the Metra trim has a bracket, or accepts the factory bracket. I'd think there'd have to be something metal on the Metra to support the weight of the head unit though.
