Weaksauce Sound...

Hello,

I recently installed:
Arc Audio Amplifier (Monoblock FD600.1)
RMS Power Rating:
4 ohms: 336 watts x 1 chan.
2 ohms: 620 watts x 1 chan.
1 ohm: 600 watts x 1 chan.

and a single SA-12 D4 - Sundown Audio 12" 600W Dual 4-Ohm subwoofer.

Everything is wired up perfectly, but I'm still getting such shitty sound out of it. It's basically as if I didn't install anything... The amp has many **** on it that I don't know how to configure, but I did mess around with it, and was unable to come up with anything. The subwoofer is barely putting anything out and it's been that way since I first installed it, about a month ago. I know neither the amp nor sub are not top of the line products, but I should at least be able to tell I have them. I may as well be listening to only the OEM speakers... I don't know what to even begin looking at to fix this.

Please and thank you.

your using the wrong wiring harness? or maybe you need to bypass the bose amp?

what kind of box is the sub in?

Those need large ported enclosures to shine.

Read this to set the gain(the *****)

Sorry, posted kind of in a rush.

Head unit is a Kenwood 516. I don't know what the ***** are twisted to at the moment, but when I was testing it, it wasn't making much of a difference. I mean, I could tell it was doing SOMETHING, but no matter what, the sub is just very weak feeling.

Before this, I had a hand-me-down 250watt amp hooked up to a hand-me-down JL sub, and even that felt better. Wiring should be just fine. I did do it all myself in my garage so perhaps I did something wrong, but as far as I know, it should be perfect.

What does it mean to bypass the bose amp?

Actually, those products are very near top of the line. They should sound amazing. Unfortunatley, there are a million and one factors that could cause a system to sound $hitty. First thoughts would be tuning of the amps, then enclosure size/design. Obviously you want to make sure polarity is correct on the sub and mids as well. Headunit needs to be properly setup (assuming you have built-in high-pass and low-pass filters as well as an adjustable equalizer. If all else fails, and decent shop should be able to help you out.

im guessing you didnt wire the sub right, http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/wo...1&I=42#results , go here to see how to wire subs properly. and your gonna want to have your low pass filter (lpf) on the amp set around 70-80. then at your normal playing volume, have the gain all the way down and go up from there till you hear distortion and go back down. never set your gain all the way up. keep bass boost down all the way.

try the phase switch on the amp (if it has one)

some amps are picky about this and some amps it doesnt make a differance

its very heard to trouble shoot without seeing the set up in person

can you take pics of your amp settings?

Sorry to appear as if I don't care about my own thread; hectic life lately.
</digression>

Anyway, It's sitting in a zenclosure for a single 12". I do trust the brands, especially since I was recommended those products from a very reputable person here, and I just meant they're not "top-of-the-line" by the fact that they're weaker products as opposed to what's available at heftier budgets.

I have not clicked "theONE719"'s link yet; I will read through it in a moment.

It is wired properly, for mono 2ohm.

I will look for a phase switch and attempt to grab pictures at a later date.

THANK YOU AND SORRY I was just in a hurry to put this post out and find more time later.

Little bit of quick short details for the amp:

The phase switch is labeled In and Out (switch is respectively positioned left or right). Not sure what to do here...
The five ***** on the amplifier are Subsonic, Crossover, Bass Boost fq, Bass Boost dB, and Gain.

Kenwood DDX516. Allows me control over High Pass Frequency for front and rear. Control over Low Pass Frequency to the subwoofer. Everything is set to "Through" for now. Recently turned off EQ and disabled Loudness, but didn't make much difference in the sub (probably weaker) but only noticeable on OEM speakers. Edit: After moving the ***** around on the amplifier, I came back to the headunit and changed some settings. The subwoofer's LPF is set to 60, and then in the EQ settings, I set the bass to 60. I want to assume this is the correct thing to do... Turned Loudness back on as well, and as a result of these changes, it feels slightly better, but still, from the cabin, is probably not even noticeable.

Will be back with more details hopefully.

Edit:
Subsonic was set around halfway from 10-60, if I recall correctly (so around 30). Crossover is near it's lowest, which is 30. Bass Boost is down, except the Bass Boost dB is up, but I can't remember where exactly. Gain is high but not maxed because putting it down just makes the sub feel even weaker.

Maybe it's just me, but I want to feel this. I don't want it rattling everything and everywhere, but I want to feel it! When I look at the sub playing through the trunk, I can barely tell it's doing anything at all. Almost doesn't look like it's vibrating.

Do you have RCAs directly from the headunit to the amp for the sub?
