Ipod w/ new head unit!

Sorry I now I should find this on a search... I did and my head is spining!

How does it work?!

I am getting a Infiniti G35 coup and I have seen lots of info, but most (I think) are talking about hooking it up to the factory radio... I probably will be putting in an aftermarket head unit (I have a Kenwood KDCX717) in the car (amp, Xtant and sub, 10"JL also) so how can I get my Ipod connected? Which is the best way?

How does it work? How does the sound get to the unit? How will the sound be? Does it power it? How many wires?

Thanks, Tim!

If your going to be putting in an aftermarket headunit, you will first need the double din conversion kit which will cost you around $400. This is why I think most people, including myself just stick with the stock one. How you hook your iPod up will depend on the head unit you use. If it has an aux in port, thats the way to go, otherwise you can always use an FM modulator.

Check out G35ipod.com

There are few ways to hook up your ipod to car

FM Transmitter
FM Modulator
Cassette adapter
Hardwire

I believe that this is in order of sound quality, with Hardwire giving you the best sound.

Simply put (very simply mind you) You essentially get a y adapter (1/8" stereo headphone jack on your ipod to 2 rca's), you also need an AAI-NIS, this plugs into the back of your stock HU where the satellite receiver normally plugs into and this gives you rca inputs. You plug your ipod into the rca inputs and then press the Sat button on your HU.

Of course, if you are getting a new HU, then make sure that there is an aux in, either in the front or the back of the unit and your ipod will plug in that way.

I'm getting my ipod in a couple of weeks and will probably pay someone to put the AAI-NIS adapter in.

If you are upgrading your stock HU to the Kenwood, the Kenwood HU should already have an AUX-IN set of inputs so you can simply hook up your ipod with the RCAs and 1/8" plug out of your headphone jack of your IPOD. A 3' cable you can get at any RadioShack for $5.99.....'

The fancy-ness level of customizing a dock for your IPOD is up to you. Throw it in the navi cubby, glovebox or fabricate a dock for cupholder (like Kloh did on 6mt.net) or navi cubby.....up to you and your creative juices.

...ok, dumb question, all the instals I see don't show the cables coming out of the top of the IPOD for the "sound"? The does the "dock" systems of instalation send power and sound? ...or are they just not showing the unit hooked up for sound?

The docking station provides power and/or sound. Most of us do not have power going to the docking station and run the ipod off it's battery.
