need new alternator?

currently I have one sundown audio sa-8 powered by a Hifonics brutus 1200w amp. I'm debating on getting another SA-8. I've been told that i'll need to get another battery, he suggested this-
Amazon Amazon

My question is if i'll have to get a new alternator also. I know that charging 2 batteries puts more strain on it, and if im going to have to get a new one too I don't know if getting another sub is worth it. I'm giving the sub about 500w or so, so if I get another it should be around 1000w max. Thanks guys!

No. Unless you're adding another amp for the new sub adding a battery would be overkill.

If you're really worried, upgrade your battery+ to alternator+ cable, your battery(-) to chassis cable, and your engine ground to chassis cable. Google "big3 upgrade."

yeah I've heard of the big 3. I'll probably just go ahead and buy the new sub w/o a battery and see if my lights dim or anything. thanks

An easy way to find out if your gonna need a new alt is to make a list of all the accessories that will be running at one giving time and add up all the amps they pull together, then add the amps your amp is gonna be pulling, then subtract that from the amp output of the alt and that will give you what you have to play with.

I would say wait till you get your stuff installed and go from there.

I run a nine.1 and a rockford 300-2 and get not dimming, strain, or any other kind of issue.

I run my set up pretty much full tilt with the roof flexing and have had no issues with the stock alt and a mid grade battery
