amp recommendations
hi ive been doing lots of research on audio systems as i am now moving to upgrading my sounds.
i wanna stay stock HU for now. so far I've ordered a usa spec ipod integration. from all i've read the amp is the crutch in this system so i would like to start there. if this makes a good improvement for me i'll stop there. if not i'll move to replace front speakers and go from there. basically, can someone recommend a decent amp for this with some headroom for upgrades. i've searched but alot of threads are 2 yrs. old and only added to my confusion. btw, mine is 05 sedan. thanks for your help

Yep, good, easy way to go, since JL amps can take the differential-balanced signal from the bose headunit. Just leave the rear doors unpowered and use the front doors and rear deck.

You can get the JL 300/4v2 for just over $300 on amazon. It works very well for 2-channel mode (how I have it set up). You'll need two RCA splitters if you're using this 4-channel amp in 2-channel mode (and for most other 4-channel amps), but they're cheap.

Used amps are usually just fine, subs *can* be ok, but I'd probably stay new there. Full-range speakers, I'd probably go new.

thank you sir for that info. much appreciated. couple more questions: you say i should use my front speakers and sub only, so basically 1 ch to each of the fronts and power the stock sub w ch 3 n 4. is this what youre running? also can you think of any other amp options that are comparable to JL? btw, your ipod integration diy was very helpful. thnx again.
That amp is a class-D "full-range" amplifier. There aren't many d-class amps that I'd really trust as sound-quality amps for component speakers, only a few of precision power's amps handle balanced audio signals, and I don't think that's one of them.
The stock sub most definitely is not built to handle 150w, but it'd be fun to see how long it holds up After it goes, just put all 300w to the front components.
I'm running the JL 300/4v2 to boston acoustics pro60se's up front (150w x2 channels) and a JL 500/1v2 to a JL 10w6v2 sub. If you're not replacing the headunit, JL's an ok way to go due to the balanced signal issue, but if you do replace the headunit, there are cheaper options than JL that sound as good/better for less.

[QUOTE=Wrathernaut;6422267]If you have the bose headunit, you need an amp that takes a differential-balanced signal. JL does, and there's only a few others that do. The JL's the easiest to get your hands on though.

boy ok scratch the PP. do you know of anyone running this JL amp to stock speakers? just wondering how well they can handle true power. i wasnt planning on replacing them just yet but there are some nice Massive vk6 for under $100 on ebay. reviews on them seem to be on the positive side.
