Retail Prices:

$450 - JL Audio XD 700/5
$200 - JL 10W3 10'' sub
$100 (or less if a generic box... up to $300 if it's custom fiberglass molded to the trunk) - BOX
$60 - Alpine SPS 610c
$80 - Alpine SPS 610
$60 - Amp wiring, speaker wires and misc install supplies
$240 - Pioneer AVH - P 1400 dvd Head unit
$150 - (Metra) Double din kit
$40 - Metra Axxess ASWC
$10 - Metra wiring harness
$10 - antenna adapter
===========
$1400 + tax/shipping

So about $250 for labor to install four speakers, run amp wiring and do the DDin swap. That's not bad for that amount of labor, if it's done right.

Here's the problem, those alpines are pretty much crap, the JL 10W3 is nowhere near as good as other $200 subwoofers, and for only $60 more, you can get the Pioneer 2400BH and have the convenience of bluetooth (and the lack of traffic violations where applicable). Additionally, you don't need rear speakers. The world you're used to is action in front of you, front soundstage (2 front speakers only) is more natural and much easier to get to sound right than 4 speaker setups. Music is not mastered in surround sound like movies are, so surround speaker setups are a waste and unnecessarily complicated. By going front soundstage, you can drop the pricey 5-channel amp for a 2-channel and a mono channel (which will allow you to use the rear channels of the radio as sub-only channels as well). By doing a "2.1" audio setup, you'll be able to better sound quality by putting more money into the components up front - Phoenix Gold are good in that price range, with a lot more options if you are willing to go into the $250-$300 range.

What I'd do for that budget:
$200 - Soundstream RUB2.450 450w, 2 channel amp
$150 - Phoenix Gold RSD6.5CS
$100 - zenclosures 10" box
$150 - Soundstream Di475.1 - 475w mono amp for the sub
$200 - Sundown SA-10 subwoofer
$80 - Dual amp wiring kit, speaker wire and misc install supplies
$320 - Pioneer 3400BH
$40 - Metra Axxess ASWC
$12 - Metra 70-7550 wiring harness
$10 - antenna adapter
$150 - Metra trim kit
============
$1412 + tax/shipping

Oh, and to save on install, try posting up in the regional forums... Somebody in that area's got to have done it themselves with my guides (others with no install experience have done it on their own with good results) who can do it for the price of Pizza and/or Beer.

Guides? Suchs as DIYS? If so, where can I find them. I can probably tackle it, but it would be nice to just pay someone to do it for me : )

This guide:

For $1k, no labor, just cut out the sub and install it later. Good components will tide you over until you get a real sub. Keep the dual-amp wiring kit though (0/1 guage) so you don't have to re-run it later. Also run all the RCAs to the trunk, even if you're not using them all, again, saves the work of removing all the paneling and interior pieces you did to run the first set.

Since you're replacing the headunit and amp, you can use the 70-7550 harness. The PAC ROEM is only for when you're keeping the Bose amp.

SWEET. So what about using the steering wheel controls, is that easy to hook up with an aftermarket HU?

Yep. Just splice the right wires and plug it into the radio.

OK. And the guy at the stereo shop siad I would need a "steering wheel control Box",, is that not the case, or does some pioneer head units come with that function and others dont?

Also is steering wheel control wiring in your guide?

The steering wheel control box is the metra axxess aswc from the shopping list.

And the wiring guide is linked in my main shopping list - http://documents.victorytechnologies...icle/10985.pdf

Alright, that looks simple enough. I feel pretty confident, I rebuild G35 coupe/350z window motors for a sidejob.

But last question, whats the deal about wiring the amp. I really want to got with one amp to keep it simple (JL audio 700/5) 100 to each of 4 speaker, 150 for SUb. Do I just splice the wires going to the bose amp? Do you have a guide for this too?
