Question for Fiberglass guys

I was laying resin in a mold for a new sub enclosure and got sloppy, the mix was too hot and it was a pour into a corner that was too deep, and I made too much but dumped it anyway because, like I said I got sloppy.

As you can imagine as the resin was hardening it cracked. Like I said, it was a pretty deep pour so I don't know how deep the crack is, but since this happened to me before I was wondering - Can I dremel out around the crack and remove the bad resin to save the rest of the mold or am I screwed?

Any ideas would be good, I have just enough done that I'd rather not from scratch if I can avoid it. I still have to make a whole other mold for the passenger side so if I can reuse what I've already got for the driver side I might get it done some time this year lol.

um... pics??? From the sound of it you may be screwed. BUT I could be wrong. It all depends. You may be in the clear if you kinda beef up the corner with fiberglass.

The exterior / shell of the mold is a layer of mat and a layer of cloth, I was only using the resin to beef it up and deaden it more. It looks like the crack is relatively deep but there's at least a skim layer of resin under the current pour.

Will try to get pics later, don't have a camera handy at the moment.

Any downsides to trying to cut it out? I haven't had to cut pure resin before, usually I'm cutting mat or cloth based pieces of the mold and dealing with the mess that makes so I have no idea what to expect here lol.

Um... like I said I really need some pics to help. I would hate to give advice then screw ya over. Im assuming you made a custom mile then used a fleece blanket to mat everything down, then resin over it all. if you cracked the mat, you can cut the mat, and re do that step again. There is no downside to this. But if you cracked the resin only to the box and its not to the mat layer yet, you could cut or sand down and resin, fiberglass it back to level.

maybe i am picturing it wrong, but in my mind from what you are saying its no big deal. just cut out the bad area and rebuild it. you are fabricating something from nothing so the setback should be easily fixed.

^^ When you put it like that, yeah I guess I'm good lol. Even if I have to cut a large chunk I can always replace it.
