I'm installing a single din Kenwood deck in my 03 g35 coupe 6mt and was wondering where a good place to put the handsfree mic is for phonecalls. Also does the metra dash kit not fix the hvac issues?

 

I was wondering that too about where the mic would be a good location.
1: sun visor
2: right behind the steering wheel
3: right below your steering wheel (right knee)

 

I've got mine clipped onto the headliner behind the rear view mirror. It was just somewhere to put it without doing any fabrication yet.

One of the guys in the First Gen Sedan section mounted it into the card holder above the driver's window. The black mic on the black card holder looked sick, al ot of people thought it was some kind of custom ****. If I can remember which ride it was on I'll post.

I'd recommend going the center, above and in front of the rear view mirror. There's much more noise around the seams of the door and corner of the car than in the middle. The microphone wires easily tuck under the edge of the headliner and come out where the wires for the rear view mirror do. If you're up for removing the headliner or at least the sunglasses holder, you can get the wire even more hidden.

This is the location I've used and have never had any complaints about noise from anyone I've talked to, and my wife was using at about 40-45mph and I had no clue she was using the hands-free at he time.

I will also add that I use the Garmin external microphone (010-10804-00), which is substantially better than the Pioneer microphone, and I would assume better than what Kenwood uses as well. Completely plug-n-play swap for the Pioneer mic.

Thanks for the suggestions but how do you get the wire from the inside of the dash to that location while keeping it somewhat hidden?

 

im only posting because im searching and can save people time if they happen to find this thread... i recently did this the cable is usually very very long i have it ran a little more center into the car than the pic....... but right in the middle the cabin th cable is hidden in the middle of where the glass meets the headliner it pushes in and only shows towards the A pillar...if even enjoy hopefully i made this easier instead of just bumping an old thread.....

 

Missed following up on this thread. To hide the cable, get the mic into position, then start tucking the wire between the headliner and the roof. To get the A-Pillar off, simply pull the rubber weatherseal from the door to get an edge, then pull the beige trim off.


Attach the plug end of the microphone wire to some fish tape to route it down to the driver's footwell.




From there, you just route the wire over to behind the radio and use the fish tape again to get it through.

 

 

hell, i just mounted mine on the little ledge in front of the clock... i wanted it somewhere where both people in front could talk into it just in case... up by the sunglasses holder is nice.. is there enough wire to do that? im not sure how long my pioneer one is

 

The mic cables are very long, more than enough to read the headliner.

 

I have mine installed on the top of the driver's side A pillar. It was easy to run the cord under the pillar and then under the dash to the HU. Works like a dream for me, and it picks up clear audio from any passengers I have in the car.
