Need advice on adding sub and amp

I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to sound systems, so any help or advice is greatly appreciated! My current setup is only an aftermarket Alpine HU with 7551 wire harness and existing stock bose speakers/sub. Btw, this is for a 2003 Sedan.

Alpine iDA-x100 HU
- RMS power output: 18 watts
- Peak output: 50 watts
- Preamp outputs 6-channel
- Sub preamp outputs: Yes
- Switchable Rear preamp outputs: No
- Preamp voltage: 2 volts

I would like to add an external amplifier and a decent sub ( 10" Alpine SWR-1043D)

Should I get a mono amp (Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-1) or go with more channels? I'm on a budget and would like to start with adding only an amp and a sub at the moment. Is it a good idea to keep bose speakers with this setup? What's the best way to bypass stock amp/sub?

I bypassed my stock amp and ran speaker wires from my hu to the trunk where the amp is and wired the speakers directly to the hu. I also bypassed the 6x9s in the deck you don't need them if you're adding a sub. I kept the stock speakers they're pretty decent. Other than that its just a standard amp/sub install. I'm running a 1200w monoblock to 2 jlw3's

It wouldn't cost that much more to upgrade your front stage, too.

That should be first thing to be taken care of

Sub wise, the new r's are good. Go with the 8, though. Or 2 if u can

Those were over engineered and are damn near phenomenal for the cost.

bro.. what i'm getting in stalled nov 19th is:
jx 500/1D amp
jx 360/2 amp
ctx 65 cs front speakers
10 inch sub (SWS-10D4)

I would think if u are running a sub u might want to have the 6x9 run like a mid bass since the sub would put out more bass.

I think the amp u are going with would run the 10 inch just fine. Do u think the HU that u have now put's out enough sound (power) to run the other 4 speakers?

If you're running a sub, don't run the 6x9s at all, just remove them to give the sub audio a good path into the cabin.

^ I don't even have 6x9s since it's a sedan, but if I did, I definitely wouldn't have kept them. I believe both front and rears (doors) are 6.5s

Do you guys think I should stick with a mono amp or get at least 3 channel amp?
Man, I'm just soooo confused about what I should be looking at. There are just too many choices...lol

Get a mono and a stereo amp, 3-channel amps are too rare, and a 4-channel (with two channels bridged for the amp) are generally less bang-for-the-buck to get the watts for your amp.

How much wattage would you recommend for a mono sub amp and let's say 5 channel stereo amp? Do you recommend bypassing stock rear door speakers and updating the fronts down the road. Do you have any specific make and models you've had great experience with? I'm open to purchasing used, but good setup. I guess instead of screwing around the with my current bose setup, I should maybe wait a bit longer, save some more money, and just build everything up the right way from scratch.

Go with a 4 channel for your front stage and a mono for the sub(s).

Ideally you want 300+ x 2 for the front stage and however much you'll need for the subs you're running.

^ Send me some more $$$ and I'll get the full setup with stereo amp. First thing I wanted to do is to add a sub and a mono amp, then build it up from there. This is my first upgrade to my stereo system besides replacing my stock head unit. My next upgrade will most likely be a 2 channel amp, since I don't plan on using my rear door speakers. I will also upgrade my front speakers then as well.

8 would've been better and cheaper

(as stated above)

People ask for advice, but end up doing what they want anyway.

Just curious, what makes Type R 8" sub better than a 10"?
