Hmmm...I wonder if the 8" would fit into the stock sub location.

wouldn't be ideal

They don't like to be ran free air and the rear deck is too flimsy

Stick with what you have

I would get a nice ported design for it, though. Small sealed boxes are meh in most cases.

Hmm...ok, so now I'm thinking my 500 watt amp won't have enough juice to power the 10" (300-1,000 watts RMS). Should I get a more powerful amp or just return the 10" and get 8" instead? 8" Type R's power handling is 150-350 watts RMS, which would work better with the 500 watt amp.

The amp is fine

The bottleneck here is that small sealed box.

What brand of box would you recommend? I'm not sure if I'd want it ported as I think I'd prefer more of a deep, precise bass.

Ported box tuned low would mash the lows a lot more effortlessly than a small sealed box.

A pwk design(http://pwkdesigns.com/) would probably be your best bet.

He'll design an enclosure for you and email you blueprints.

As far as getting it built, one of the better box builders is dave @ http://davetheboxguy.com/

He actually made a design for someone with an R that wanted to hit sub 20hz
