Aftermarket stereo with stock headunit?

Is it possible to hook up some aftermarket amps and speakers to the stock headunit in order to keep the steering wheel controls? Also, could you adjust the output of your amps so that the stock headunit will give more volume? Some professional help would be appreciated.

What are LOCs... Maybe that set up can save me some money on getting an aftermarket HU... or just get better subs and a more power full amp...

problem with stock HU is lack of ability to tweak sound staging and settings *effectively*. LOC = line output coverters.

You'll need something like this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PmFcUYr...PL2&search=LOC

or like this...
